The newest December update for Tesla vehicles will have SiriusXM included. I am hoping they ours will too along with the google cast. Has anyone heard anything regarding that?

Considering how long it took Tesla to add SiriusXM streaming, I don't expect us to get it in our Rivians for years.

Frankly, actual satellite radio is one bit of old-ish tech that I wish Rivian kept in its vehicles. What Tesla is doing--and what Rivian will probably eventually implement--is streaming using the data connection, so if you're outside the cell service area, you're SOL. It was great to be able to listen to XM in my old truck in Death Valley, Yellowstone, remote Oregon wilderness, etc.

I agree. It is a nice thing to have when you are off the grid. Too bad we will only be able to use it when we have a cell signal. But it is better than nothing.

The Rivian shark fin antenna has a satellite receiver built into it. It's a matter of completing the contractual details between the respective companies. And IMHO streaming on cell data connection isn't particularly high tech but rather garbage tech. Come to the mountains, prairies, deserts and plains of the west and see how well that streaming on cell phone data works for you.

Don't think that's true. There are pictures of one take apart with no satellite receiver in it.

Unless you know something I don't, that is incorrect. We've seen that antenna disassembled and there is no satellite receiver in it.

I agree it would be nice for those off grid trips, but it isn't happening as far as I know. The best we could hope for IMO is they will make it easier for plug and play units to connect via BT...

Was at Denver Service this past weekend and asked; they confirmed to me at least as it relates to my 2025 that there is a satellite receiver in the fin antenna and that XM is on the way. I didn't ask if that (satellite receiver) was the case for earlier Rivian models.

My neighbor who is part of the software testing program says he was told to test XM Radio, since it was being added to the latest beta OTA. So, should be sOOn... 😛

Interesting. Maybe something has changed and they haven't announced it. 🤷‍♂️

Don't know other than what I was told when I asked and I specifically asked for clarification that it was "satellite" capable vice streaming.

The announced plan was streaming XM. It's been in the works since before Gen2. Gen1 definitely does not have the hardware for satellite, and I haven't heard anyone saying that it was added in Gen2. IMO it would be a huge deal if it did, and the many XM partisans would be dancing in the streets and filling the forums with posts. I haven't seen any of that ...

I had XM in my Jeep that was replaced with my R1S, I was planning on using XM in the Rivian when it was released but I’ve mostly been using Tune-in and now see no need to subscribe to XM as Tune-in seems to cover my needs.

Probably helps that my old ears have no use for high quality sound.

I don't understand the allure of satellite radio these days. You can have a music subscription and download just about any song you want, as much as your phone's storage allows, for offline listening. Unless you like talk radio or something, I'd rather listen to music or audiobooks. I can do both of these things through Bluetooth with no service.

Service people often misunderstand technology.
