A few companies offer CarPlay add ons. They tie into the 12v system via a fuse piggy back.

this works great for gen 1. But I don’t see any fuses under the driver side panel on a gen 2.

is there anyway to tie into 12v system on a gen 2? The idea of using a fuse is so it powers on and off with the vehicle.

gen 2 removed the 12v socket too.

any thoughts on connect to 12v system in a gen 2?

Thanks. Does the power shut off when the vehicle shuts off or do you need a switch?
it does shuts off when the Rivian is going to sleep mode. I use this device to power my Valentine one radar. I see the radar turn off in about 5 or 10 mins or so. FYI, only early model of gen 1 has the 12V socket underneath the infotainment screen.

I have not tested this. FWIW, EV Sportline includes the obd tap when you get their android auto add-on.

There is life after Carplay or Android Auto. They are not needed. Drive well.

LOL. It’s always nice to have people informed me what I like.

I’m must not be as talented as you because I find Rivian almost impossible to play music. I have to pick up my phone to select a different album or book. I don’t get any of my text messages read to me. Impossible to send a text. Trying to get directions on Rivian does offer a lot of laughs, but I do need to get places.

how do you play music? Received texts, get directions? You should try CarPlay.

what add ons should I add to my Rivian. I hope I did order the wrong color?

Not the one you replied to there and agreed - you like what you like and want what you want - that's why we are all different people :)

I had never had AA/CP until we got a 2025 Kia Soul and to be honest I do not miss it when in the Rivian. The *only* reason I use it in that car is for navigation since it puts it on the nice car screen rather than my tiny screen.

In the R1S my Pixel phone will read and send text messages and I can get google to play whatever song I want on YouTube Music. Along with this it also shows the playlist that is being used etc on the R1S screen.

Maybe my needs are basic, maybe Siri needs to step up her game, alI can say is that for me....Android Auto is not needed.

I assume you still have to activate it via the phone, same as Siri. You can use Hey Siri if it’s quiet enough in your car and the phone isn’t in your pocket (or purse).

I’ve gotten into several dumb arguments on these forums about CarPlay “needs.” Sure, if you mount your phone next to your screen, maybe you don’t need the phone integration as much. If you’re like me and value being able to keep your phone in your pocket while driving around town but still get the maps, music, Teams, and text integration you want, there’s still lots of value to it.

I swear some people on this forum have a notification setup that triggers them to respond to any thread with the mention of “CarPlay” just to chime in how it isn’t necessary, yet they don’t come up with viable solutions around Rivian’s shortcomings. I went through this same crap on Tesla forums, but assumed most were just Elon worshipers. Seems the same is happening with Rivian fanboys.

It is kind of funny seeing all these posts complaining about glitches in Spotify and/or Apple Music as well as the built in Nav. While I use Apple Music and Apple Maps just fine with my CarPlay (okay technically it’s the phone doing it ?)

I keep my phone in my back pocket so when I get into any vehicle it comes out. I have a magnetic wireless charge mount between the driver and main screens that I just pop the phone onto. But I am in total agreeance that this does not work for everyone which I I don't knock down on peoples want for the feature to be added to the car. If it were to appear, would I use it - that all depends on how annoyed I get with the lack of customization on the screen. In the Kia I find the layout awful with no options to change it.

But at the end of the day - whatever floats your boat...unless its a cyber truck...then I hope we can all agree the bed of that truck would be used for the owner to puke in every time they had to look at it....

No, it's that carplay sucks ass for many people. Here, the cell reception is shit with all the mountains. CarPlay uses phone internet, so it cuts out as the phone is in my pocket, in my truck encased by metal and glass. The truck antenna gets much better reception and doesn't cut out at all, therefore the native streaming apps don't suffer the same problem.

So when I say carplay sucks, I mean it. My wife's BMW has it, and that's the biggest thing I hate about that car. It would be perfect with Rivian's infotainment.

I tried OBD, but the power never turns off on a gen 2.

I’m not excited to just tap into a wire.

Add this to the device in post #2 above and you'll be good to go (with the correct adapter out of the switch of course)..
