Quick review on the tonneau cover from Tail Lidz.
Packaged nicely. 3 panels with a weather seal strip on one side. Definitely hand made and assembled, the corners are a little rough.

The sides and the corners do recess into the track, so you can't see the gaps / finish. The panels are light, but sturdy and are very snug in the rails. You have to really push them in to make sure the truck registers the tailgate is closed.

They will do a decent job of sealing just due to the pressure from the tailgate, but definitely not water proof.

Panels do fit in in the gear tunnel. They do look very good installed.

I would consider them over priced, but give the lack of options for us without the motorized (maybe broken) cover, they will do the job well and are solid.

Thanks for sharing your review. It's a bummer about the rough corners, but it does look really nice installed. What's your impression of the durability of the carbon fiber wrap?

The wrap seems pretty thick and should hold up to normal wear, I would not want to drag anything heavy and / or sharp across it.

Great! Thanks for the insight. I think that would apply to any tonneau cover material, including the original, powered tonneau cover.

This is great but def overpriced by at least 25%, maybe more…but I suppose it is the only option reasonably similar to the promised OEM manual cover panels. By the way, “early 2023” is almost over so an update communication from Rivian would be nice.

It would be interesting to see these aluminum panels sprayed with Rhino liner or some other rugged material.

Thanks for the review. For that price I would expect better finished corners😕

I would love to see ones made out of a starboard type of material that could take a beating and you wouldn't have to worry about paint, powder coating, etc.

A 10mm thick 5’x10’ panel of alumalite is $365, which should be enough for 2 vehicles. 5’x5’ of carbon fiber vinyl wrap from first place I found is $225 (enough for just the top; double for both sides). Guestimate of $100 for edging (not sure if plastic or aluminum, lip seals?) puts it at $500-725 for materials. $1000 sell price doesn’t seem way out of line.

I would think using the tough painted coating approach, it would be possible to make your own for well under $500.

My thoughts exactly. Thats a hard return in my opinion, no way I accept delivery like that for $1,000.

Based on your back of the napkin math on material costs, the sale price of $1000 is aligned with typical profit margin of manufactured goods.

The rough corners seem on purpose, where they grinded down the edges to make it fit better.
I'm more worried about how that material will look under direct sun, after a couple of years.
