Not complaining and not saying there is a definite problem BUT I just bought an R1S dual max and not sure about the suspension. Seems to be “loose” in the front end compared ti the Lexus 570 I had. Ride seems sturdy overall. Anyone have input? Should it feel shaky and a little loose?

These are vague descriptions. Going from one familiar vehicle to one that is unfamiliar of course it’s going to feel different and… unfamiliar.

Odd to expect two completely different vehicles to feel identical wouldn’t you say? Did you not test drive at all prior to purchasing?

If you’re convinced something is amiss get an appointment for multi point inspection.

It’s normal. Low speed feels clunky and noisy, and at speed feel taught and sturdy. It’s weird.

No.

The steering on R1 is too light and has almost no feedback. That said, it should not be shaky - meaning that it vibrates at all speeds, or loose - meaning there is a slack/lag between the steering wheel input and the change of direction/wheel movement.

Maybe it is the case that you're noticing the difference between vehicles but If I was experiencing what you say by my definition, then definitely have it looked at.

Problem is the suspension was built for off-road and 99% of people are pavement only. Wish the wheelbase was longer like the R1T which doesn't have the same porpoising effect. If people came from a Tahoe or similar, you'll be disappointed at the harshness, especially on 22's. Engineers made some good software tweaks but ultimately, especially Gen 1 R1S just isn't that great with ride feel imo.

Put it in sport lowest, even on soft and passengers will think your truck is broken. I don't even know how that's a supported drive mode.

If yours is clunky and noisy, you may want to get that checked.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
If you're hearing noises over broken pavement, get it to the SC. There are a few things you'll want to verify first.

One sure-fire way to see if you have bad half-shafts (it's a common failure): find an empty parking lot, driving at about 20 mph, lift off acceleration to activate aggressive regeneration and turn hard (without flipping) left. Do this again to the right. If you hear popping noises, your half shafts are blown.

As I said, this is a very common failure point - mine just got back from having the half shafts and hub bearings replaced - and the suspension is VERY quiet now. It's a different truck entirely.

Do not accept this as simply being "how it is" - it's fixable and they will do the work if you ask.

Basically been told that’s the way it is by SC. Two different locations. I may try again since more seem to be posting lately.

If it’s clunky sounding I suspect it’s a jounce line. They should have a service bulletin about it.

Yeah, they said mine wasn’t part of that service bulletin. That’s more of a squeaking. Don’t really have that. It’s probably just the nature of the beast and more related to half shafts which I’ve already had done. Gonna drive a Gen2 to see if it’s worth the upgrade. Mine is early Gen 1.

Thanks. I’ll give that a try.

no, have them check the alignment.

mine was WAAAAY off from the factory.

Felt like the front end was on ice skates.
