Anyone had any experiences (beyond reconfiguring the speakers to connect to the cars’ Hotspot) using SONOS Roam speakers whilst out camping/glamping/overlanding?

I've got a gen 1 sonos roam and I'm not very impressed. Sound is decent but the speaker dies really quickly and is a pain to connect. There are many other better brands of bluetooth speakers for camping like JBL and my favorite, Ultimate Ears.

I'm a huge Sonos customer, and while I'm still annoyed at the "new" app ever since they changed from the original app, I will say that my Roam does well in general and lasts a good amount of time...but this is my 2nd Roam. The 1st Roam was left on the magnetic charging stand and the battery went to crap in just over a year. While they say you can continuously charge it, my experience with any of those types of rechargeable things (Sonos, Dyson, etc) is to let them charge only when needed...and the batteries don't get run down. (Though I'm not sure if this happened to you, emoore.) Basically, I attach the chargers for any items like this to a smart plug (Kasa, WeMo, etc) with a 4-hour auto turn off for the plug, so it charges for 4 hours and stops. Not sure if that's helpful...

Don't get me wrong, I love my normal sonos speakers. I have a home theater setup and it's great. But those speakers just plug in and work, the roam not so much.

Oh, right. That's true. The bluetooth thing would spaz out here and there instead of plug and work. Good point.

Weighing in. I've got a Sonos Move (first gen) and that speaker is excellent. World's better frequency separation, dynamics, and surround than the camp speaker. I wasn't expecting a lot from the camp speaker, but I am surprised by how much better the Sonos Move is. I can't speak to the Roam, but I can recommend and Move gen 1 (which are going used on eBay for about $150) without hesitation.

I'm sure the Move is much better, the roam experience just killed any hope that I will get another portable sonos speaker. I'll stick with UE.

Big Sonos customer here have about 13 around the whole house. Just bought the gen 2 roam a month ago. Was definitely let down a bit. Wanted something instead of bringing the much bigger Sonos move.

From what I understand it’s only blue tooth so I could be wrong but I don’t think you fam connect it to your Rivian’s hotspot because that’s WiFi?
