So, No Non-Perf Dual R1T's until 2024?

There's another thread where this is mentioned, but I want as much info as I can get. That thread says there is an email out there that states Performance Duals are being delivered this year, but Non-Performance not until 2024. Can anyone else confirm this? I need to do something in tax year 2023 but have no need for a Quad and definitely not a Performance Dual. I got into the game late, so the price difference of those from a large/ dual are significant.

It will probably depend on how popular the performance dual ends up being.

They will likely put off selling any of the cheaper configurations as long as they can.

If they have excess manufacturing capacity after a few months then they'll probably open up non-performance option then. But if it turns out they can sell vehicles as fast as they can make them without ever offering the cheaper options then they will likely end up discontinuing those options before the first one is ever built.

That's what I though too. So, the premium for "Performance" is all gravy for them and hence why they are pumping those out 1st, I'm guessing.

Well I think you hit the nail on the head here. It's not really gravy though since they are not making a per vehicle profit at this point. So when you look at it from that prospective it will probably be mid next year when they have higher volume and lower per unit costs that it makes sense to sell lower priced non-performance models.

I do not think that is correct. Search for the Monroe video interviewing RJ, he talks about Silicon and Silicon GBT (?) in the drive units so I do not think it is just a software tweak. If you do not purchase the performance you can’t just upgrade via software because of the drive units.

In the recent journalist invite to Normal I believe it was reported that, while you couldn't unlock via a post purchase, it was all just software. Could be wrong but if it's just software that would simplifying production.

I think this has to be done at purchase. Go to the visualizer, you cannot get the performance dual motor with the standard pack so I doubt you could later upgrade to performance with the standard pack. Then listen to this video starting around minute 18, they talk about the differences of silicon carbide and silicon IGBT and how some of the lower cost combinations will use silicon IGBT in front and rear and others will have silicon carbide in the front units.

This is just my personal take on the subject but to me it sounds like more than just software is involved in the difference between standard and performance versions of the dual motor. I could be wrong but it certainly sounds like there are differences. Maybe if you get standard dual with small battery you can’t upgrade, maybe standard dual with large battery you can. 🤷🏻

Yeah, fingers crossed it's just a software update. I was as skeptical about the powered tonneau retrofit as you are of a hardware differentiation, and I that turned out to be a nice surprise! I guess I'm a little less jaded after that, lol.

Let me add a little fuel to your optimism. I was completely wrong about the R1 series having what hardware is needed for VtoH but in a different RJ interview he says they do…. 😁
