I've always wondered why people feel the need to tell us they're leaving. It's not like any of really know each other and will miss anyone who leaves. :D
I think its more about what they're going to.

One of the drawbacks of brand specific forums is we don't really have insight into other brands.

So having an exit statement simply tells us what attracted them to some other "new thing" and why they felt like it would be a better fit for their needs.

Sometimes their needs will overlap with our needs.

So I find it useful.

It's also helpful from an exit interview perspective. Like its one thing to complain and an entirely different thing to jump ship.

Though for the record I've driven Cincinnati to Nashville on a single charge on several occasions ;)

Maybe from your perspective, but the OP had felt like he was part of this community even if he wasn't all that active. That speaks to how much of a sense of community we've built here and how meaningful this little corner of the interwebs is for so many people.

That is to say until you showed up to 💩 on this wholesome moment and remind everybody why nobody likes you.

Just kidding...

No offense taken and I actually agree with you. As a very infrequent contributor no reason for me to say goodbye but I did feel the need to thank the community as this forum was a great resource for me.

Dude. You can't post about your new truck without providing pictures.

And I am curious if the range really works out like you hope. It has a massive battery but at highway speeds it will be a lot less efficient than the T. (Depending on wheel configuration of course.)

I'm fortunate to have a Sierra in addition to my R1T. Based on my experience and what you've discussed, the Sierra will be a better truck for your needs. The "real" range and superb charging curve far outclass the R1T. In my experience (interstate is mainly mountain, so less max speed but more up-down), the Sierra has an efficiency that is 80-90% of the R1T, and with over 50% more useful battery. It reliably fast charges 15-75% in 30 minutes - seeing 350kW pop up and hold to around 50% SoC still amazes me. The combination makes it a much more efficient road tripping (and towing) vehicle. GMC Supercruise is also better, although the new Rivian hands-free upgrade has closed the gap a bit.

The sense of community is one of the best things about owning a Rivian. We are fortunate enough to own both an R1S and the Silverado.

vs the R1T they each have their pros and cons. The R1T is smaller (easier to park), a bit more efficient (so slightly cheaper to fuel, has a more upscale interior, and lastly the R1T excels at all purpose use.

For us it just so happened that the couple of areas where the Silverado excels were areas that I really needed to make use of.

1) Range for towing
2) DCFC performance 350 kW and a 10-80% charge time of 38 minutes in my testing.
3) The back seat is massive which is important if you carry people, pets, or stuff back there regularly.

there are things that coming from a Rivian aren’t as good such as software updates and the software defined vehicle, the GM doesn’t have the all purpose capability especially in off road. While 4 sec 0-60 is super fast for an 8500 lb truck it is definitely slower (especially 0-30) vs the R1T.

Wow! I had the quad and never could quite make it. I got overconfident once and got close but had to stop on the north side of Nashville in a sketchy area and sir at a level 2 charger long enough to get to an electrify America. Our house in Cincy is on the north east side and our house in Nashville is south so it is just over 300 miles.

I have to make the drive tomorrow in the Sierra for the first time the app says charge to 90% and that should do it I am sure they are leaving a buffer on arrival.

To be clear I loved my R1T and had nothing seriously go wrong with it and when it did the service center was quick to respond. The only complaint would have been that when my 12v battery died they wanted to wait two weeks to come replace it. Once I explained my situation they adjusted and came within a few days.

The “pros” for the GMC really came down to size and range. I live in Nashville but work in Cincinnati Just out of range for the Rivian so had to stop and charge every time and that became a pain. If the suggested mileage was accurate that would not have been an issue. The size part really comes down to cabin space more than bed space. We have two Great Danes and while they could ride in the R1T it was a pain and the amount of prep to get them in meant I didn’t take them much.

Once I test drove the GMC I knew I needed to switch. It isn’t as snappy and has its own quirks but I feared it would feel huge and it does not the rear steering makes a huge difference.

The software is not even in the same league as Rivian and I will miss how what was good to begin with got even better over time. I think I will be lucky to get quarterly updates on the GMC software. I do however like having some physical buttons and I won’t miss the twitchyness of the phone being my key with the Rivian.

I will miss the gear tunnel too but the huge bed and over 6 inches more height under the cover will hopefully make up for it.

Probably more than you wanted but those were the big things.
Thanks for the feedback. For my uses (and here in FL - hurricane country) I would be more about the 'power out' options available in your new chosen truck vs the Rivian. Did that have any bearing on your decision? Drive well.

It did, our house in Cincinnati is in an older neighborhood with power lines above ground and very mature trees. Power outages are frequent but usually don’t last more than overnight. So it will be helpful there and we do a lot of tailgating type activities and being able to draw a significant amount of power from the truck will be nice.

Hi all just to follow up. Drive back to Cincinnati today. I charged to 100% which indicated 457 went to church and back right at 32 miles then drove to Cincy 306 miles there was a cross wind and rain 1/2 of the way. I arrived with 91 miles remaining so 429 on a full charge give or take. Not bad.

Congrats. If you need/want a full sized truck I think GM is doing a bit better than Ford for an EV. As big as the R1T is, it's not a full sized truck. Having lot's of range makes trips stress free and lunch stops relaxing while you charge back up.
