So, randomly lost all audio in my new Gen2R1s. ....meh..another issue. Soft reset didn't help.

MAJOR BONUS:
I seriously had the most quiet and peaceful ride since I purchase the auto. It was so queit and stress free. I felt happy driving. So great. I was smiling when I got home.

What I now Know:
The amount of fake motor sounds, and other nonsense pumped through the system is staggering. This thing is now as quiet as my Mach E (until all that fake stuff starts working again).

Before this latest issue, I could not put my finger on why my Mach E felt more relaxing to drive. Now I know. I have the option to turn off fake noise in the MachE.

The Fake E-Motor noise alone is a crime against humanity on the R1S. Turn signal sound is very brain piercing. FFS. I had no clue 90% of that was not the actual motor noise. I thought maybe 10% was fake at the most.

I would pay to have the ability to turn off the fake ambience. Its pure noise and I discovered its low-key stressing my brain out for some reason.

Now I am debating on doing the hard reset or enjoy another 30 minutes of peaceful quietness for my last round of errands tonight.

I am going to make a recording off the off ambience vs the on here if the sound system is still non-functional.

The Gen2 R1S dual Max is extremely quiet without that nonsense fake motor noise.

Um … like the sound of the motors spinning up is fake?

is the added noise something like active noise cancelation?

I'm confused.

There is no fake motor sound EXCEPT when driving at low speed.

That's a legal requirement though so Rivian can't do anything about that. But, its not being piped out via the speakers in the car.

If you're not getting the pedestrian noise coming from the vehicle than you need to report the issue as a safety issue to the NHTSA.

I'm getting absolutely 100% nothing at the moment. Nothing at low speeds (My mach E sounds like a ghost). The low speed sound turns off at 15 mph or something close on my mach e.

I will 100% report it. Not sure if its a bug in the latest update? I lost my drive modes until they re-pushed it to my car a few days ago. Everything was working fine until about 40 minutes ago. But yeah. Its quiet as a mouse inside and out.

is the added noise something like active noise cancelation?

EDIT: Yes the Wirrrrreeeeeee motor sound when you first start driving is the low speed safety sound for pedestrians. RIVIAN appears to use the fake motor sound as the warning noise that stops around 18 mph?

I personally don't think it is noise cancellation. I think as the other poster mentioned. The external low speed sound is gone, also no radio, no turn signal. Literally nothing is making any sound and my car is significantly more quiet than its ever been. I'm a professional musician and have a commercial recording studio. Noticing noise and sound is my profession the sound difference is significant. Losing the turn signal and radio tells me my speakers have 100% stopped operating.

You could be on to something if we keep an open mind.

Could they have added active noise cancellation in the last update? - I suppose they could have. That is a great train of thought. Maybe its a feature they are pre-loading to activate later and mine just borked? But i did lose the turn signal and radio. My Eqs are bouncing but no sound. The cabin is SUPER quiet. I notice these things. Its my literal job. The cabin is way more quiet than just losing low speed fake motor noise It could be a bit of both? Very interesting.

The pedestrian warning sound on my LE R1T sounds like the wind and it cuts off at 20 MPH. It isn't produced by the interior sound system. I can really only hear it with the window open.

What you are describing is definitely not the required pedestrian warning sound.

I would absolutely love a quiet cabin. If that motor noise is faked, I'd be surprised, happily. The noise level is our biggest complaint of the Rivian. The Ioniq 5 in comparison is dead quiet inside and it's amazing.

It is funny what a person gets used to, our Model S has no noticeable motor noise. When I first got the R1S I really noticed the motor noise, after 2 years I don’t even notice it anymore.

It's bad enough that we're super excited for when the Ioniq 9 becomes available.

Yours must be way worse than mine. I have the quad Bosch motors, is that the setup you have? I’ve been in a few R1Ts and my R1S seems quieter but my R1S is the only one I’ve been in so have nothing to compare it to.

A portion of it is 100% faked. I hate it, then it was gone. life was good. I did a hard reset and its back. So is my radio and turn signal.

It would be easy to verify with a microphone near the speakers

I installed a Hanshow second display to my Model Y. For two hours, I had the same thing. No sound inside or out. It was wonderful. It sounds like(pun intended) the outside sounds on both vehicles are generated by the same source as our inside sounds systems. I suspect separate amplifiers, but the same pre amplifier section.

That's your problem right there (j/k). You have a much higher ability to notice sound than the rest of us deaf sods. Just wait till this happens to one of us and there will be a storm of complaints that they can't hear anything.

Seriously, though I see your point. I agree that there should be an option to turn some of the sound off if it doesn't break any laws.
