I think it's sad Rivian leaves those of us with 275/65R20's without much of options. I called CS and was told they don't have an accessory for these yet. If going to any California areas in winter and snow is on ground the HP will issue must be using chains, etc. Guess my adventures in an "adventure vehicle" are limited. Appreciate the link above for options.
Curious if we run cables on the 20" (I'm running Ram wheels + KO2s in 275/65/20), and we keep it in standard height and avoid low, would that be okay?

Something like this:

So... Picked up a set of Super Z low profile chains for my 20" stock AT's.

I couldn't bring myself to spend 2-300 Canadian on a set of Autosocks, which sound like they'll turn to shreds after a couple uses. So, I decided to spend 400 on chains that would potentially damage my truck... ? My logic sometimes.

Anyway, tried them on the front tires because those were the most likely to have clearance issues. FWIW, they cleared the wheel well while stationary in low suspension setting. My logic was, in High setting, and not driving like an idiot, I would be less likely to come in contact, if at all, with the plastic wheel well.

Unfortunately, it seems the clearance between the inner wall of the tire and the knuckle (the part the wheel is attached to and held in place by the upper and lower control arms) wasn't so great, and you could hear it "ticking" against it a couple times per rotation. Tried to get a GoPro video of it in motion, but my battery wasn't a fan of the cold weather and died prior to trying. At the time, I was 98% sure this is where the problem lies, but after looking over stock tire sizes between all rims, they all have the same 275mm tire width, which means something else was happening. Plan is to try again later in the week on both front and back to be certain what the issue is, if any.

Edit*
Video included. Feel free to speculate on the sound.

Would you think the knuckle would get damaged ? Did you see any damage?

I just edited my post to include a short video I took from my window while driving. Feel free to speculate. As I mentioned, I plan to try again in a week to locate the issue. Also, my tires have some spirited driving miles on them, so they aren't fresh, full tread tires. So clearance to the plastic wheel well will vary by 1/4 inch?

Hmmm. Difficult. Playing it at half speed, every time the noise occurs there's more snow spray seen. There's nothing loose on the chains to be hitting ground and the inner rim? Do the 'chains' stretch? is it just them snapping back into space?

Thanks for sharing this experiment.

Even on the smaller tires Rivian doesn't recommend chains or cables on the front wheels.

Yeah I'm not certain what the issue was. I had hoped to put my GoPro on the inside of the wheel well to see, and probably lose a GoPro in the process, but it died on me, and I wasn't keen on waiting on it to charge to continue that days experiment.

Were all the clearance pics taken in standard of low ride height? That's surprisingly close to plastics if standard. Guess I'd also be curious how they worked on the rear end since I was considering a set of these as well just for emergency use. Was also looking at the ‎ZT837, but I assume they require even more clearance than the SZ468.

Snow coming tonight, so more testing follow-up here shortly.

I edited the original post with the ride heights in each photo. These were the lowest clearance chains/cables I could find.

Okay, most of those tight ones looked like low. Standard/high certainly seem reasonable, save for whatever tick you noticed. Look forward to your additional testing. I've never actually needed chains and the Blizzaks seem to be doing the job so far, but would love options so as not to get caught with my pants down if the need arose.

I've been pretty happy with how my T has handled itself in the snow without chains. That being said, I enjoy pushing the limits and heading out into the back country. Chains to me are a must, regardless of the vehicles capabilities/composure getting there.
