I was wondering if anyone else had an experience like this- my R1T, which had about 3000 miles on it, has been doing something that sounds and feels like a clutch slipping. Sometimes when I accelerate, or more rarely when the regen braking kicks in, there will be a grinding/slipping sound at the rear and when accelerating it feels like the motor is not engaging the wheels fully when the sound is happening. Feels like a service issue, but I thought I’d poll the forum to see if it’s a common issue.

Any chance you can post a video? There shouldn't be any "slipping" sounds...depending on your model it could be an issue with the rear motor disconnect. Likely will require a service center visit to correct.

I managed to get it on video- this is an example of it happening when I take my foot off the accelerator and regen braking kicks in. I’m definitely going to make a service appointment.

Haven't seen or heard about this before. I'd schedule it for service.

There's a rear motor disconnect with a clutch on the dual motor versions. What is your configuration?

That sounds like the rear disconnect failing. Call for an urgent appointment, not just the app.

It’s a dual motor. I called for a service appt and they won’t get me in until late February. When I expressed concern that this could be a serious issue they said they couldnt do anything g unless the truck died and needed to be towed. Unbelievable.

Are you near a service center? A rear disconnect failure can be catastrophic for the rear drivetrain.

This is my second R1S. My first one had a rear disconnect failure on the highway leading to a huge bang and the rear end hopping up violently. Ended up being a buyback. I personally wouldn't want to wait three months for a service appt.

Maybe you can talk to someone over the phone and explain to them that you feel this is a safety issue, and to request an urgent appt. Rivian does prioritize undriveable vehicles.
