Huh, not sure what I think of this. I like the minimalist vibes and basic style. Reminds me of a lot of the pickup trucks in the 70s and 80s (smaller, 2-seater, etc). As it sits, it’s clearly not a competitor for any of the existing EV trucks, but it could be popular at the targeted price point.

I’m a huge evangelist for EV’s, so anything to get younger buyers (or any buyers, for that matter) onto EV platforms, I support.

I have no use for this truck. I could see how some people would be interested at this low of a price point.

I like the Slate concept of going after a large volume, entry-priced segment. They need to get the basics right on the powertrain: ~300 miles, 800V charging. If they do that, then there will be many people who are willing to make compromises on other features and capabilities. If the nerf the powertrain to pay for other features like big screens, power everything, etc. then it will not get much interest.

The Ford Maverick was marketed as $20k truck and at that price, it’s a total winner. Demand was so high that they all had markups, yet were still selling. Now it’s mostly just the hybrid drivetrains that have markups, but they’re still selling over MSRP…for models that cost well over $40k. One of my best friends just got one after a frustrating search and the MSRP is mid-40’s. I don’t understand the appeal of a truck like this at over $30k, but I don’t think even Ford expected it either.

People absolutely love small trucks with a low base MSRP and are willing to spend twice that for all the upgrades, even if it means paying more than they would for a Tacoma or even a Tundra depending on the trim.

Me too. Bring it on. Maybe it’ll make Rivian consider an R2T, if they haven’t already.

I like the idea but I'm skeptical of the reality.

As we've seen from other EV startups, going from concept to production vehicle is more like a 3+ year process. Longer if the factory and infrastructure doesn't already exist. It also requires capital measured in the multiple tens-of-billions of dollars. I don't see that level of capital availability for EV startups being available anytime soon.

Where the hell is this being made that production can start in 2026? Is there a fully equipped EV factory “near Indianapolis“ that we don’t know about?

Except that its Jeff Bezo's thing. It can and probably will happen.
