Here was how I configured my setup.

Installed the Rivian charger hard wired via 6ga cable (very small run to my panel) using a 60amp breaker.

Then mounted a place to store my cable closer to my garage door which I cut a hole through and installed a cap/door as a cable pass-through. (I also created an insulated foam plug to go into the cap when I'm not using it)

So now when I want to charge the truck I just pass the cable through my garage door. When I'm done I put it all away. 👍

Very nice install. Assume you used 6 gauge THHN wire? Did you put it in metal conduit or PVC? I have heard that non metallic conduit changes the temp rating.

Thank you.

I did use THHN in this install and actually I got very lucky because my electrical panel is directly behind that charge box so my wire was a very short sub 4' run to the breaker.

I see. Yea, I'm planning on just a 3ft run from my panel to the charger I want to install (50 amp Autel on 60am breaker) and plan to use 6 gauge THHN. I am just trying to decide if I need to use flexible or ridgid metal conduit or if I can get away with PVC conduit with heat ratings of THHN in conduit. I'll probably just use metal since it is a short run to make sure.

BTW all, there is a lot of marketing here, but Autel did a presentation today at the Detroit Auto Show on their home chargers and Level 3 DC chargers that is interesting. I think I have decided to go with the Autel Maxcharger 50 for my home

Do you really need 50kW? Granted it's not going to be as bad as blasting 200kW all the time, but 50kW DCFC is still going to wear the battery more than an 11kW L2 setup. Unless 25 mi/hr is really not enough, I'd avoid going DCFC.

The level 3 DC is just part of the presentation for their commercial offering. I'm planning on 50amp ac charger here

Autel MaxiCharger Home Electric Vehicle (EV) Charger, up to 50 Amp, 240V, Level 2 WiFi and Bluetooth Enabled EVSE, Hardwired, Indoor/Outdoor, 25-Foot Cable with Separate Holster, Dark Gray https://a.co/3XD8COk

Ah, okay. The "50" threw me off, since most L2 EVSEs come in 40A/48A/64A/80A versions. 50A is a bit of an odd-ball... But yea, should work fine -- although the R1T onboard charger will cap out at 48A.

Yea, I don't know why they market it ass 50A, maybe just to make it sound more powerful than all the rest or something. It is really 48A.

Not sure what our rules are about posting deals here, but the Autel 50A (48A) level 2 charger on Amazon has a 20% off sale right now. Go to the page for the charger and you should see "use code. at checkout..." Add it to your cart, then put the code in the promo box and drops it from $599 to $479. This combined with the 30% tax credit will drop the overall cost to $335 or so which I think is a bargain.

Looks like some of their smaller chargers (40A with remote and onboard holsters) are on sale without a code needed.

R1T in 2023 🤞
Getting excited for my R1S and it will be the first EV I have. I'm torn on if I should hardwire (for max amps) a charger in the garage or outside around the corner. It really depends on if the R1S will fit in my garage or not.

Anyway, I tend to have a lot of outdoor tools lining the sides of my garage and a large wood set of shelves in the back so looking for inspiration on clean installs for charges in the garage and thought it would be great to have a compilation of them here. Doesn't matter if it is the rivian charger, plugin, hard wired, etc.
There’s my Chargepoint 😂.

There’s my Chargepoint Flex 😂. Plugin. 50A. The electrical panel is just right behind the electrical box. Box was not really needed but it was existing and already has hole to the panel. Came down that box (EMT conduit) to where I mounted the CP Flex. One reason i chose CP was the charging cable length. Mounted it close to the garage door where i can charge r1t parked on the driveway. Using it for tesla until i get my r1t.

Nice. Yea, still working out if I'm going to put my charger next to our panel in the garage which would allow easy charging if R1S in the garage and about 8 ft in the driveway or if I should put it near the garage door which would make a longer reach in the driveway. Depends on if the R1S fits in the garage. It is tight enough I won't really know until I try to park it.
