My mind is telling me to do that, but that price!! At 96 already…might as well do 101Performance Dual Motor Max Pack.
Full send. Even if you have to get the max pack first and then get the performance unlock once Rivian rolls it out.
I really love the fast acceleration, but comes with cost of range in my situation. I think I may end up with the Max for peice of mind since it will be my first EV, and I commute 70 miles each day.Go see if you can test drive with and without performance. I'll bet that'll help you figure out what's most important. If speed is important to you, I suspect you'll want the performance.
I'm currently shopping and to my taste, dual non performance has adequate power, but nothing special. But that's me
I’ll be going that route. When is your gen 2 due to arrive? You could always get the Max and then upgrade to the Performance in the future if you still wanted it. That only leaves off the roof which there are other solutions for if you really needed shade. Maybe not as nice as the stock but there are shades that you can insert.
Personally I went with the max since that extra range may be nice on road trips etc where charging is not as frequent and fast as getting gas and would consider getting the software update in the future for performance if I really wanted it.
That is technically true…since I don’t even use quarter of the range each day…and I can charge overnight.Honestly save the money, get the loaded large (which is a software limited max), you likely don't need the range for real world use. That remaining unused portion of the pack may become either available to buy in the future or used to maintain usable capacity overtime.

Not sure. Still says purchase opens in 1-2 weeks.I’ll be going that route. When is your gen 2 due to arrive?
FWIW - commuting 70 miles each day even the standard battery will MORE than cover you. My current vehicle is a Mustang Mach e with a rated 270 mi range (real world closer to 200 on bitter cold winter days where I'm driving 80+). And even that I'm charging every other day at mostI really love the fast acceleration, but comes with cost of range in my situation. Well at least I’d get the large, but the max would be more for roadtrips than anything else, and I only take a roadtrip once or twice a year, mainly flying places and renting when I arrive, so really and truly…the large could work, but like @MidnightRivian stated, might as well go all out…it’ll be a good 60th birthday presentFWIW - commuting 70 miles each day even the standard battery will MORE than cover you. Agreed, I went from mach-E standard range to an extended range because it was basically a free upgrade ( long story). I live in NH too, I plugged in daily on the winter to maintain the battery health, but only charge as needed in the summer, usually less than once a week. My standard range would only est 130-170, the extended 180-210. In the real cold.FWIW - commuting 70 miles each day even the standard battery will MORE than cover you. It's crazy they needed to lock that much capacity to make the max look like a good deal. Some good conversation here on the large vs. Max pack. I think I would probably just get the max pack and think about the software unlock for performance later on.
