Hi

I have a Gen 1 R1s and I was wondering if anyone set up a camera inside with remote access.
I was considering a hub less unit like the wyze4 and I heard the rivian may keep the WiFi running is the driver seat belt is buckled or it’s in camp mode. I am sure this will eat the battery a bit but I have no intention for this to be on long

My Rivian is still to be delivered so I do not know if the internal wifi stays active yet...presumably someone comment on that. *cough* I do know though that some of these hotspot plans can get throttled very quickly if the cell carrier detects video streaming outbound, in this case I have no idea.

There are few dash cams that have LTE built in like the blackbue cameras you could either spin the main camera around quickly and watch it anywhere (monthly cell fee) or use the rear camera printed inside all the time. In those cases I am able to access my DashCam (front and back) remotely anytime via the built into LTE connection.

I've had limited luck with/ a Wyze Cam Battery suctioned to the roof, plugged in via USB-C cable at all times, and connected to the hotspot. When I'm away from the vehicle, it's completely hit or miss if I'm able to connect to it remotely, but it does also at least record intermittently. I feel like this solution can probably be perfected -- maybe I need to plug in the driver seat belt when I leave? Has anyone confirmed that ensures hotspot continuity?

I'll do some tests on our G2 to see if the hotspot stays up with the seatbelt buckled, pet mode or camp mode. I'd like to put a cam on our pup when we are away with pet mode activated.

It would be nice if the Gear Guard c/would leverage the inside camera. And / or have it come on when you put the car in Pet Mode.
Early Gen 1 had the cameras disabled. And later Gen 1s don't even have one...

I am so glad you asked this question. We invested a lot of time into researching this set fall. We had a dinner engagement out of state that both my wife and I would need to attend together. We have a 17 year old cocker spaniel (who is now blind and deaf) who travels everywhere with us, we can’t leave him alone for very long. The solution was to buy a Google Nest Doorbell - the rechargeable battery operated version. The setup was a bit involved because you have to be in the Rivian with the WiFi hotspot active and your phone connected to the hotspot. Also, because this is a doorbell, it requires you to leave the flat aluminum mounting plate connected for it to operate. The only annoying thing is that you have to remove the mounting plate to access the USB-C port for charging. It does last a long time when fully charged; I simply zip tied it to his Kennel. It worked great. The solution to keep the WiFi hotspot active is to enter Camp Mode and Manage Power toggled on. This will also keep the Heat/AC active. It’s good idea to monitor the temperature periodically because the R1 is sometimes buggy.

Game changer!!!!

Yep — camp mode + manage energy is the solution here.

Now I can reliably check my Ring Battery Cam I have suctioned to the roof and USB-C plugged to back of head rest.
