Just picked up our R1S from the Chicago service center. I noticed that they didn’t charge or wash the vehicle. Is this typical?

I noticed that Tesla never washed following service either, but at least their owner pickup process was much more convenient (parked at charger, charging, waiting for me, no human interaction required). I could retrieve my vehicle at midnight if I needed to.

I know when we owned “poor man’s” BMW’s (MINI) the dealer SC would always wash prior to having me pickup the vehicle.

I'm unsure what typical practice is, but I'd rather they didn't wash it. I had an Audi SQ5 in for maintenance at the dealer, and they washed it. There were a bunch of miles on it, and the shop kid was gone for an hour. He blamed it on traffic, but I know he was joyriding around with 40 extra miles. That car was only 400 some HP. The last thing I need is some shop kid Ferris Bullering my trimax.

I think it's supposed to be released with 80% charge on it though.

Early on(2016) in my Tesla ownership they used to wash your car for you when it was in for service. You could also decline the wash if you didn't want it. Sometime in 2017 they discontinued that service. It was one of the first overt signs that they didn't really see themself continuing being a premium car manufacturer and were more aiming at the mass market.

But anyway, the car wash was done at the service center itself. They had a dedicated car washing area for this purpose. There's no reason that some kid should need to drive your vehicle anywhere away from the service center to get the car washed if this is set up appropriately.

Depends on the SC. In WA, when we only had the Bellevue location, they never washed the vehicle and charging was hit or miss probably dependent on how busy they were. This year they opened a new, much larger center and each time I've been there they asked me if I wanted a wash and a charge.
