Just received this warning message on my 2024 R1S Quad with 3700 miles last night but no limp mode. Did a soft reset last night and a long sleep reset this morning and the message has been intermittent as I drove around town this morning.

(updated as this has been a draft all day…)

I just noticed a wet spot on my driveway and sure enough, there’s an oily drip from the lower control arm. The entire area seems to be coated in oil- the underbody shield, hydraulic lines, suspension, etc..

Has anybody else had a similar issue? I was able to get a SC appointment in Burbank within two weeks and I’m hoping for a quick turnaround.

It’s never been off road (unfortunately), I’m always in all purpose w/ Auto suspension, moderate ride, and I feel like the most abusive thing I’ve done is enable kneel mode for my kids to get in/out.

Being 5 hours from my nearest service center and having the suspension system fail is the scariest part to me of owning a Rivian. I keep kneel mode off with the idea that it doesn’t tax the system as much.

I would call Rivian. I had something similar happen and they towed it same day and fixed it in 2 days despite appointments being booked 6 weeks out. They won’t want you driving it at risk of damage.

We just had our quad R1T in to repair what appears to be the same issue. In October we had a mobile service for a tire rotation and our tech noticed a leaking hydraulic line on the rear driver side.

We did not have the error on the dash, but the tech warned if enough oil leaked out that we would have that warning pop up. Fortunately, we were told we could keep driving the truck. We waited a little over a month to get into the Gaithersburg, MD service center. They fixed it same day. It took about 8 hours. They have two lines they need to replace.

This happened to me on, brand new R1S Tri. The entire suspension system needed to be replaced. Pain in the ass! My truck was less than a month old.

OMG picking up my new R1Stri this Friday and now getting angst! Only saving grace is that a service center opened up 7 miles from my home earlier this month - better take them some bagels.

give Rivian service a call since this may be leaking hydraulic lines - perhaps at the connection fittings or seals. this appears that a number of vins have the issue including Gen 2. I noticed the oil stain on my garage floor before I got the alert.

They will put the new upgraded parts on there for replacement, after the repair time and hassle, probably a win for improving suspension dynamics, smoothness, and noise.

I had similar and on the day I was supposed to drive it an hour to the Service Center the drivers side front wouldn’t even raise.

I called to see if it was safe to drive and ended up driving it that way.

This was October 2023.
Then October 2024 I had it in to do the AC vibration TSB and they noticed a leaking damper. They ended up replacing both fronts.

So I’ve had the drivers front replaced twice now. 2023 R1T Quad.

I think that's what happened to mine as well. Took a corner real tight, then this happened. I think Rivian knows it's a design flaw.

Service contacted me first thing this morning and bumped my appointment to two days from now and arrange a loaner. If it gets worse they told me to call back and escalate it so it can be towed to the SC.

I will be excited if I get a suspension hardware update, although I'm ok with the current ride quality.

Thanks everyone for your input! I’ll keep this thread updated with my experience.

I dropped it off for service yesterday morning and a tech came out for what would have been a ride-along. He popped under the vehicle and noted that the air suspension oil would be blue in color, the gold colored oil that I observed appears to be coming from the drive unit.

My guess at this point is the suspension error could be a red herring from a sensor covered in oil, but I’m waiting to hear more. Could be after Christmas though. In the meantime, I have a Ford Expedition rental from Enterprise on Rivian’s dime (except gas). Would have preferred any R1S, but I’m not sure about the fleet status at Burbank.

Advice to anyone that has to deal with an Enterprise rental via Rivian, I made sure to have Rivian tell Enterprise that the rental MUST be a full EV. I didn't want to have the expense of gas.
