Rivian is going to be fine so long as the R2 works out. The R1 line is supposed to be a halo car. Sure they’ll lose some dual motor R1 sales but they will keep their high end ones selling.

The Rivian Ascend is a much more upmarket SUV to this and to people like myself that is more appealing. The R1 can’t carry Rivian anyway, it’s up to the R2 to do that and this doesn’t compete there. R2 starts at 45 and is more utilitarian and road focused. It’s going to make a better commuter car.

Not everyone wants the louder road noise or more truck like driving dynamics that a vehicle like the scout would touch. I think Ford needs to be worried with their Bronco and Jeep needs to be worried more than Rivian does.

If Scout succeeds, it's good for Rivian too. VW will shell out $$$ to Rivian. I will buy more RIVN tomorrow if it dips.

Rivian has nothing to worry about.

Yes, the Scout has solid axles, mechanical diffs and optional mechanical lockers. What does that mean? Trade traditional off-road traction for energy loss to mechanical friction. Let's be honest, well over 90% of operating time is spent on-pavement.

Scout will benefit from Rivian's gen 2 zonal architecture and software dev. stack—this IS the scope of the $5B joint venture. These two technical areas are only part of the entire puzzle. They still have to deliver on a UI and UX that is good.

Part of what we enjoy with ours is the experience Wassym's team delivers. Wassym and his team aren't jumping ship.

And, RJ isn't dumb. He has not and will not hand over Rivian's X-factor over to anyone—unless he says "screw all you haters, I'm out" and puts the company up for sale.

They are targeting '27 launch. Rivian has already 3 years of deliveries and development, right f'ing now.

Scout's advantage:
  • Access to a huge parts bin catalog and head count within the entire VW Group. All that will make things easier. But it's not a guarantee for good products (look at their current portfolio, some good, others not).
  • Terra and Traveller are potentially cheaper/easier to repair—actual bumpers that are not part of other body parts.

EV market in the US isn't even 10% of total market. There is room for everyone to play and grow. More EVs means better charging infrastructure. And, hopefully, less apprehension and fleecing when it comes to insurance and repairs. The more the merrier.

The Scouts are cool looking vehicles to be sure..... but looking at the Traveler, it looks like an off road vehicle. The silhouette teaser made it look more modern. I get that they want to preserve the Scout legacy, but as an R1S owner and R2 reservation owner, I love the more modern look but also know I have a bad ass off road machine.
I think the R2 is much more of a on road vehicle?

They are saying 350 miles on the all-electric version and 500 miles on the range-extender version. I didn't catch what the electric-only range was on the configuration with the range-extender. They did say it would come with a smaller battery to make room for the gas tank. Kinda hoping it would be something along the lines of the upcoming Ramcharger, which is claimed to be 145 miles on battery alone.

Will be interested to see, but my guess is that if you take Hybrid option the battery will have to be smaller so less range as an EV.
They said the range extended version has a smaller battery with the space going to a fuel tank. The battery doesn't need to be as big when the generator can recharge it (I thought he said in nine minutes, but I can't believe that). I think this type of set up makes a lot of sense. BYD is doing the same thing in that pickup they want to build in Mexico.

Will you stop posting Rivian FUD after they release it?

The only threat to Rivian is Rivian screwing the pooch by focusing on anything but making and selling profitable excellent vehicles. I am not in the car business but it seems like they should shelve the Ran, Gear, spaces and any other BS until they are making money.

You are correct. They said they remove part of the battery in the rear and replace that with a fuel tank and engine that charges the battery.

They said they have designed the vehicles to be easily assembled on the same production line, swapping out models as needed. They didn't say specifically, but obviously that allows them to easily adjust model production numbers to meet consumer demand.

So if BEV demand drops, they just make more hybrids. That is such a smart strategy, and improves the chances they will be successful regardless of the direction the market takes.

I think they look awesome, and I love the opening roof option. But it looks like the pickup truck has a glass roof. Bummer. I wonder how loud the wind noise will be on that fabric at highway speeds?

hate the lights. looks like the Porsche Taycan, which i hate as well.

I absolutely LOVE the four dash LED DRLs. Looks very much like what Porsche is doing with the DRLs across their vehicle line-up. It's a great look and very different from what everyone else is doing. Im kind of surprised to see Scout copying that design element and I wonder if that's going to cause any issues, but I guess it won't with the family connection.

The side view is very Rivian. I'm going to stick a VW badge on my Rivian. That should end the "who makes it" questions at Costco.
My simple solution: If they can't read R-I-V-I-A-N, they are not worth my time.
