I've been wondering for a while but this thread is 100% proof that unless you just love the look of the 21s or 22s that 20s are the way to go. More tire options, CHEAPER tire options (like in the case of the 21s where the tire is OEM specific), and a tire rated for 15K more miles than the regular 20.

21's still seem more efficient tho? 2.4kw average puts the car at 300 miles. where 21's put it around 338 miles.

In what mode are you quoting? At 2.4/kwh and a 135 kw battery doesn't that imply 324 mile range? At 2.0/kwh that comes out to 270 which is what my R1T used to quote for all purpose range. In conserve it quoted 313 miles which is 2.3/kwh. So if using this new tire makes it about 20% more efficient, then in conserve mode it would be almost 2.8/kwh which is 375 miles. Seems too good to be true, but there's a lot of room between 375 and 338 so even with a big margin of error, seems like the tire really is comparable to the 21s.

Remember that the 2.4 is in mixed highway/city driving in All Purpose, average speed around 25-30 mph. I have been seeing much higher numbers on the highway in Conserve although I haven't done a controlled road trip yet in the new tires.

I’ll take the cost savings on a new set of tires over the few extra miles any day 😂. The OEM 21 is $438 and the AS+ is $259. Plus the look of the 21s vs. the 20s. It’s not bad. But it’s not great. If you’re riding without the aeros you may not see the 2.6 anyway.

I agree - I think the efficiency of the 20 AS is basically comparable to the 21s. That is not surprising, since the diameter of the Scorpion 275/60/20 is within 2mm of the 21s.

135kw is not usable, its 125kw. the OP quoted 2.4, which puts range at 300 miles. Here is a R1S on 21's

Rivian R1T R1S Scorpion AS+ tire swap (from 20" Scorpion AT) - WOW big difference 1678121194532

I want/need the range, but hate the lack of options on the 21's.
I'm hoping to get the 22's and then buy just the wheels from Rivian for the 20's and put the AS+ on them.
Truck will then come configured for the 33" diameter and I should be able to swap back and forth with negligible difference in speedometer reading and have many more wheel options.
That's my theory anyways lol

Only a few replies earlier in this thread someone quoted the Munro breakdown showing the battery is actually 141kw with 135 usable. And if the target is the 2 miles/kwh on the display screen, which conventiently ties to the old 270 range in all purpose on the 20 AT tires, that's why I'm basing my assumption off the 135 kwh. Unless the 2 miles/kwh is not the "target".

It's not, more like 2.1-2.2 mi/kWh on the 20's. Munro is wrong. Usable is ~125kWh + whatever reserve they released in the previous update.

Ok cool, I'll go with 125. So with 20" AT at call it 2.15 in all purpose you get 2.5 in conserve to impute the 313 mile range that I see on my range screen. If the OP is saying 2.4 with these new tires, which has been a mix of AP/Conserve I'll knock it down to 2.3 to be conservative to get to an all-purpose only view. That would tell me you can get 288 miles.

Then switching to conserve mode, if the OP is getting 2.3 in all purpose (my estimate) vs. the 2.15 with the OEM tires, it would imply 2.65 in conserve vs. the 2.5 it is today. So 2.65 is 333 miles of range which looks to only be 5 miles off the 21" tires. So it's pretty dang close.

Alright, I'm sold on these tires. Definitely giving these a shot. But, do I wait for ATs to wear out or switch it up now? 20k miles with 7/32nds left.

Also, looking at 275/60R20, contact patch is 25% less than AT+. It's 8.3" instead of 9.1". Any concern there?

You have 20k on the oem ATs and still 7/32nds left, pretty impressive.
