Supposedly the retrofit option for those of us that took delivery mid tonneau refresh is late summer, or at least that's what was said earlier this year
I purchased may of last year and the tonneau was removed around the time my Max pack was changed to Large. The Tualatin, OR service reps told me that it’s not set in stone people like me, mid refresh, will have the option. They did tell me the rumor that was spreading around that time which a retrofit would not be possible is false. Do I need to call corporate directly to get that set up?

I just picked up my R1T yesterday, and though I was able to schedule service for some small panel misalignments, I was not able to schedule the PTC install.

Interestingly, though Trenton is relatively close by (~50 miles), the only two service locations I was offered were Brooklyn (129 miles and usually at least 4 hours each way) or Gaithersburg, MD (155 miles and infinitely easier to get to/from than Brooklyn). I'm hoping that Trenton will be an option before the actual service date, which is not until August.

Maybe a dumb question, but for those that bought a truck "with" a PTC that was to be installed later, does your tailgate button on the bed rail also have the PTC button? Those of us that had the PTC removed from our config and only got the manual tonneau only have a tailgate button. The questions around whether we can get a retrofit at some point still haven't been answered, but I am curious how much of the "infrastructure" to support the PTC was installed on the trucks actually sold with the capability to add it baked in vs the rest of us.

my truck came "with" PTC but the button is not there (only for the tailgate). at pick up they told me it was going to be a retrofit when the cover came in.

That's good for those of that wound up with the manual tonneau.

FYI: Yesterday I spoke with a Riv Service rep about the power tonneau cover(ptc) retrofit. Yes, there will be a future ptc retrofit for Ts that have the rails. When, who knows..

Just got a call from Rivian Service to move my PTC install from early June to October. May delivery FWIW. Annoying, but it is what it is. At least they're able to send mobile service out next week for the trim that's loose.

Took delivery 5/29/24 in WA. Was originally told fall install for PTC. Got it installed 7/25/24. They will install a new button and program internal onscreen button. Process took about 4 hours.

I took delivery January 2024, without PTC. I called today to see if I could get one retrofitted, and I was told that it won't be available for sale until 2025 :(

Pretty much same. I took delivery around Memorial Day, had appointment for install of the PTC that was included with my prebuilt R1T, and was notified last week the inst appointment I had for end of August neede to be moved to end of September. Stated reason why was lack of wiring harnesses.

I put the September appointment in pencil. Fully expect there may be more delays.

my truck is literally at the service center for this right now plus some other minor things and I just got a call that I have to reschedule for the tonneau because of the wiring harness. 3.5 hour drive each way to the service center for me so this is a bit beyond infuriating. They need to sort out this service nightmare they are currently in or it will kill their business.

Yes, it’s one thing to postpone me—my appointment was a month out, and we just pushed it out another month.

But if someone is in the service bay right then, the company needs to find a way to secure a harness. Maybe it needs to disappoint another customer whose appointment is two weeks out, but it needs to take care of the guy in the service bay.

I’ve got a few annoying things to be fixed, but the service center is over an hour away and I am not doing the down and back 4 times. 2 is enough.

They claim they called all over trying to locate one, but yeah, i agree and I am likely not the only one in this situation based on that. They told me that it would likely not be until November now to reschedule. At least we have a concert in boston scheduled for november so will try to plan around that.

As I posted earlier in the thread, my truck is configured with the PTC but was delivered without it. The delivery center told me when I picked the truck up that Rivian estimated the parts for the PTC would be available "sometime in the Fall", whatever that means. I have not had an update on the timing since delivery on 4 June.

I had an appointment at a Rivian SC for early this month to take care of some relatively minor issues noted at delivery. I've since re-scheduled to October, hoping that the PTC parts will be available by then. Rivian's history on that sort of thing is not encouraging however.

If there's no update on the PTC by October, I will postpone the visit to the service center again. Rivian is not letting me schedule at the SC that's closest to me (Trenton, NJ), which means driving to Gaithersburg, MD or Brooklyn two and three hours (if you're lucky) respectively. Maybe if it gets postponed again, I'll be able to use Trenton, which is less than 45 mins away. Rivian is reportedly close to opening a new SC in Malvern, PA which is only 20 mins away. If my appointment slides far enough, maybe that will be an option.

I just hope they can install the PTC before winter. I'm planning to take the R1T to snow country (UT) in Feb and don't want to have dig a couple of feet of snow out of the bed every few days.

Update:

I contacted Rivian Customer Service today to see if there was any new information on the PTC and to also ask if I could change my existing 10/31 service appointment from Gaithersburg, MD to Trenton. While the tech I was chatting with had no information about the PTC, he did tell me that he could write up a new work order that automatically scheduled my existing service tickets (a total of 7, all pretty minor) will the install of the PTC at the Trenton location. The WO would become effective as soon as the PTC parts were available. I told him to go ahead with that..

Fast forward a few hours and I get a text message from Rivian telling me that the PTC parts are available and that I should call Service to set up an appointment for installation. Of course, that could be nothing more than coincidence. It could also be that the Rivian customer torture algorithm was finally satisfied that it had put me through enough frustration.

The bottom line is that I now have an appointment scheduled for all of outstanding work id'd at delivery, as well as the PTC. There's still a bit of a wait involved; the booking is for 25 November, so three more months of waiting, maybe the final lines of code of the torture algo. Rivian did say that I'd get the tonneau cover "sometime in the Fall" when I took delivery, so there's that.
