First review by Savage Geese on a Rivian. As usual an interesting and detailed review.



Good technical deep dive with information from Rivian. Lots of detail around the suspension and motors and how they have evolved from Gen 1 to the 2025 model.

They should clean the camera they're using. Some shots have a bit of a distracting smudge obscuring the speedometer.

Their complaint about efficiency at the end feels undeserving. I don't think any other EV this size achieves nearly the same mi/kW. Hummer, Lightning, G wagon....Driving 80mph on the highway is going to eat up the battery in any SUV. I might do it anyway, but I'm not gonna complain about it!

Glad to see this, I was thinking about messaging them about doing some Rivian content. Their Lucid coverage has been really good. Their ability to get sit downs with OEM engineers really sets them apart. I've really enjoyed the deep dive videos about the NSX, Miata, etc.

Is the stereo as bad as they say? I just placed my order today ? with “sound and vision” package.

I feel there is some justification there. I've got a coworker with an EV9 that's averaging over 3 mi/KWh with a lot of highway driving at 70+ mph.

They explain, as we know, that Rivian prioritized performance (both capability and raw acceleration) over efficiency for the flagship R1. So this is not a surprise.

Show me another car that can do 0-60 in 3sec, an 11sec quarter mile, complete the Rubicon stock and still seat 7. ?

This reaffirms what I’ve felt myself. About 90% of the ride changes on a G2 are already in place in G1 via software changes on the spring rates. When G2 came out, that same week all R1S had an update for ride comfort. This is why in my eyes, it does not make sense to change a G1 to a G2 if what you’re looking for is ride comfort.

It depends on perspective. If you have the Meridian now it will be worse, but it's still better than my wife's BMW premium sound.

Updates have improved it a lot. And the SXM app actually sounds good. Not quite Tesla good, but close. And that’s a huge improvement from the start.

thanks all - and NTinkle when you say “updates” do you mean software updates? My R1S is in early production/ still on assembly line so presumably will get the latest and greatest version of everything (I hope)

Yes - SW updates. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed - at least not nearly to the degree the early G2 adopters were.

Thanks - yeah it seems like Rivian and Tesla might be only luxury cars that don’t partner with established speaker company like B&O, Bose, etc. I currently have 2021 Tesla Model 3 and sound system is bad.
