Good find, thanks. Does seem to maybe show some slight differences in roof area of gear tunnel, but perhaps not specifically related to the changed tonneau cover. Hard to tell from that Reddit video if there is any subtle change to the total volume or height/opening clearance. This Reddit post has the best look I’ve seen at the gear tunnel with the V2 PTC. I haven’t compared it directly to mine.
I have the same questions/concerns about the strength. My kids (55 & 65lbs) have walked around together on my v1 cover before I had a chance to stop them and it was fine. I have also personally (190lbs) stepped up onto mine by accident when loading the roof rack and it was also fine. For all the problems v1 has, it is quite strong.I assume V2 isn't as strong as V1, so no setting items on top. I wonder if they'll have V1 cassette available at a discounted price... If/when mine fails, I'll try DIY repair before going replacement route. Service manual makes it look pretty straight forward.
@chimerasaurus responded on Reddit re: his new Dune V2PTC. Sounds like it is reasonably sturdy… Will be good to get further testing by owners:I have the same questions/concerns about the strength. If a tonneau cover can't support groceries, how is it going to support heavy wet snow???? I'd say groceries should be table stakes.@chimerasaurus responded on Reddit re: his new Dune V2PTC. Sounds like it is reasonably sturdy… Will be good to get further testing by owners:
“I haven’t tried standing on it but I did set groceries on it absolutely no problem today. It seems fairly solid to me.”
V2PTC Load test anyone? Anyone? Would love to get some feedback. If a tonneau cover can't support groceries, how is it going to support heavy wet snow???? I'd say groceries should be table stakes.
Floor of gear tunnel (without any extra plastic mat) to lowest hanging item(s) protruding from the roof of the gear tunnel (assume box on each side containing door latches and gear tunnel lights. Also, if someone wants me to take a measurement of the gear tunnel, let me know what to measure.![]()
19 inches in center of tunnel. Left gear tunnel door ~17.6 in from bottom of opening to latch cover.Floor of gear tunnel (without any extra plastic mat) to lowest hanging item(s) protruding from the roof of the gear tunnel (assume box on each side containing door latches and gear tunnel lights.
Thanks!

He was also told Gen1 would get hands-free Driver+.Kyle was told that the V2 tonneau cover would be available on early Rivians!!!
It’s possible that more (narrower) panels provide similar or even more strength. But we’ll all have to wait for reports.Thinner design. I don't put a ton of heavy things on it right now, but I also don't think twice when setting a box on there. I'd like to see how flexible V2 is and what would happen if you set a bag of groceries on it.
Wonder on retrofit cost for gen1?Kyle was told that the V2 tonneau cover would be available on early Rivians!!!
