A while ago I got a rock chip on front bumper camera. Chip itself is tiny and is barely visible but it produces a pretty large smudge on videos. Rivian quoted about $1500 to replace it so I said screw it and just dealt with it.

Now with dashcam update coming I think this will be a larger issue. Does anyone know if windshield fix-a-crack products will work in this case? I don't really want to shell out $1500 for a $3 piece of camera lens.

GMC made a smart decision by making their camera lenses separate, user-serviceable parts. More companies should do that.

Wow- wonder if there is a stick on UV filter type product. A sacrificial filter.

Wow. $1500 seems crazy. Looks like I will be cutting the world's smallest piece of PPF for that camera when I get my truck. Sorry manđź‘Ž

Ouch that is expensive. There is an opportunity for an aftermarket product to protect that $1,500 camera. Might be worth an Insurance claim but then again that may cause rates to go up.

That is pricey...however, I think dashcam will use the camera in front of the rear view mirror and rear camera above bed.

Dang, that’s nuts! I’m gonna order some PPF and cut it to size. Would be a nice product for someone to make.

When I finally get my S and get PPF, wonder if installer can spare some scrap for me to use. Go idea to PPF it.

First - auch! $1500 for a new camera is insane!
As for how to protect it - we don't currently work with any optics but you can ask @AO_Pete from AbstractOcean- they recently released something similar for Tesla, perhaps they can make it for Rivian too? I think the main purpose was to be hydrophobic but it still doubles as a protection too.

From what I've seen of actual footage someone posted it uses the front camera and not the rear view mirror one. It's a strange fisheye view

I just had my front camera replaced under warranty (it was full of water). My invoice listed 1.5hrs in labor to R&R the camera. Even at an assumed shop rate of $300/hour that's a very expense camera unit.
