About to head off on my first R1S road trip. Have most of it mapped with charging stops coordinated to my co-pilot's pit(bull)-stops. Noticed the Telluride chargers at the Conoco (only DC charger in the area?) seem to be iffy, at best. Anybody in the Telluride/Mountain Village area with charging advice? I have a telsa to J-1772 adapter, a 110 extension cord and a 220 NEMA 14-50 extension cord (with dryer-outlet adapter) so I should be able to pivot to whatever source of juice I can find....Just hoping the house we have up in Mountain Village has a 220 I can hook into, at a minimum.
Any advice would be MOST appreciated!

Funny, I am about to do this trip from SF Bay to Telluride with the family and dogs. Looking at the RAN map there is a Rivian waypoint charger in Mountain Village. https://rivian.com/experience/charging#map

Also from the advise of another forum post I picked up a NEMA TT-30P to 14-50R adapter for RV site hookups. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07G2MT4T6?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details

Good luck and send us photos of the trip.

Interesting....the Rivian app shows the site you linked to be a Rivian Waypoint charger, but if you look at it on Plugshare, comments are that it is for hotel guests only. Looks like a R1S tried to charge there in early June and was told to pound sand -- hotel guests only and $28/day parking (although it sounds like they gave the R1S info on other chargers in the area that they could use). Looks like the one in the Heritage Parking garage (Madeline Hotel) has a ChargePoint system -- hoping it's public. Can walk to our house from there!
Will report back on good/bad events on the adventure. Safe travels to you and your family!

And -- just found this:
Mountain Village Charging Stations
There are currently three public, Level 2, dual-port EV charging stations within Mountain Village; 40 amp, J1772 ChargePoint charger and an eight post-Tesla Supercharger station on level 5 of the Gondola Parking Garage, ChargePoint station on level P1 of the Heritage Parking Garage, and ChargePoint station in the southwest corner of the Meadows Parking Lot.

We drove from Denton to Colorado Springs back in March. The only places we had issues were in Oklahoma. All of the other stops and chargers were no problems for us at all. Most of our stops were at Electrify America.

The Conoco chargers are fairly new. They are the only DC fast chargers in the area (non Tesla) at 75kw, there are two, and they are currently showing out of order. Otherwise the Rivian waypoint charger is at a hotel, it should be public. I would guess that paying guests get first dibs. Otherwise there are a smattering of 6kw chargepoint stations around Telluride. It would be really nice if Rivian would add a RAN around there somewhere. Maybe around Sawpit or Placerville on 145 into town. Fast charging around the area is pretty slim.

I live just west of Telluride. Yes the DCFC at that Conoco is not to be relied on, and even if you can get the EVConnect app to get it to start, it's priced at $.75/kWh. The L2 at the Intercept Lot was marked out of service a bit ago but haven't tried it since. The one at the Gondola parking garage at Mountain Village has always worked for me, but it's been a while since I've used it.

What route are you planning to take in? US 50 through Gunnison and Montrose (which has a RAN DCFC by the Culver's), US160 towards Durango and up, some other route?

Feel free to PM with any other questions as well.

Just a heads up, if you're planning to come across US 50 through Gunnison, there's really ugly road construction going on there again this year. Our model Y picked up about a half a dozen deep stone chips and other minor paint damage driving over the loose tiny gravel + tar mix. Rivian on high height might fare better, might not, depending on who is in front of you.

@vindicator Have you left for your trip? Curious what you found to work around Telluride. We are camping at the city campground so its looking like a Montrose trip or Conoco for me unless there is some L2 chargers in town.

There are L2 chargers in the Silver Jack public garage in town and L2 chargers in the parking lot near the Conoco off of 145 if the fast charger doesn't work.

@StefanB Good news: One of the two EV Connect DC fast chargers at the Conoco is working (a/o 2 days ago).

Please let us know how the trip goes.

I live in Austin and have a place in Telluride. I will be (hopefully) taking delivery of my R1S next month. I had originally planned to take delivery in Austin and immediately drive it to Telluride (where it will live most of the year) but just changed my delivery location to the Denver SC.

Iā€™d love to learn how your trip goes. When we drive to/from Telluride (in an ICE vehicle), we typically do it in two days ā€” stopping either in Albuquerque (going) or Roswell (returning). I wasnā€™t sure how weā€™d do it in an EV.

Iā€™ll do a more detailed write up of the whole trip when I get back, but for @SHPEV : I used Roswell as the stop on way up and plan on using it as stop on way home. Usually use Santa Fe as stop on northern route, but the charging/dog stops would have had me getting in pretty late. Roswell seems like a good nearly half-way point in each direction due to charging plans/needs. Hoping they get the 3 different DC charging locations open sooner than later there as Artesia is an inconvenient charge stop. As a quick overview so far: been very pleased with efficiency in the mountains, with the performance on/off road, and with charging up here in Telluride. If you have anything up here youā€™d like me to look at specifically, let me know! Iā€™m enjoying being a ā€œtest caseā€ up here.
