Most of us -- it's why a lot of people have been annoyed there's no support for connecting phones through Android Auto or CarPlay since the vehicles already run Android Automotive under the hood.

Yes, Android Auto and AAOS are different things. My point was that supporting Android Auto in a AAOS vehicle should be more straightforward than manufacturers like Toyota or Ford who roll their own OS's and have to start from scratch. The decision to not support Android Auto or CarPlay is clearly of a product nature, not technical.

Yes, it’s a deliberate decision not to support AA/CP which I 100% support.

Something the announcement of Google Cast and YouTube integration should tell you is the idea of Carplay or AA is dead. They wouldn't go thru the process of going this route if either one was in the future.

I would assume that Rivian is using the bare bones open source version of Android, with no Google license you don’t get anything but generic Android without any Google apps. Popular way to jump start a product ala the Humane AI Pin and Rabbit R1 devices.

Android Automotive is a full-blown operating system built into supported vehicles, eliminating the need for a smartphone. It controls the car's in-cabin functions and offers features like music, navigation, and Google Assistant. Google Automotive Services is the app package for Android Automotive.

There is a SDK for companies to develop off of. Apple is stupid easy to develop for..one piece of hardware that it very documented in a closed ecosystem. A number of auto manufacturers are dropping. Every auto manufacturer has requirements and it is done cheaply. I will take a closed system like android automotive over Android Auto or car play. If Rivian was smart they should pursue a closed system as you can control integrations.
