24,040 in 14 months and three trips to the SC in Franklin TN from Huntsville AL (two for tire rotation and one to replace a plastic wheel cap/reason to just joyride).

Me personally I have zero issues with my R1T and drive and love it.

From this article it looks like it failed at predicted reliability where owners surveyed reported encountering major problems within the first few weeks of ownership.

I don't think there is any denying that there is truth to that.

I wasn't surveyed, but I did encounter a major problem within the first few weeks of ownership. In fact I'd say that my vehicle is still not fixed and its been almost 2 years.

Rivian needs to fix the initial reliability.

Aside from the the initial problems plus the long term issues I've been pretty happy over the course of ownership if I ignore the first month.

I was a camera/video/scientific optical technician in the "last century". Consumer Reports gave a #1 rating to the worst camera ever produced. It was 20% of our repairs for all cameras. It had stamped aluminum parts instead of steel - guaranteed to fail but "CR" liked the light feel of the unit. I think "CR" credibility, and following, is in the low single digits.

I think of Consumer Reports as the proxy for my elderly parents. Whenever they can't figure out how to use an app on their phone, or struggle with something on the computer, it is "broken." CR uses a 2012 Honda Accord as its reference point. Anything that diverges from that reference point is "overcomplicated" and unreliable.

Lesson: CR does not think my parents should buy an R1S. I, and all citizens of the Republic, should agree.

Judged on "Road Test Scores, Predicted Relability, Owner Satisfaction from Member Surveys, and Safety"
Road Test Scores (Subjective)- We've seen CR's bias and inaccuracy in many road tests. Also, the R1S ride has improved greatly with the new modes.
Predicted Reliability (Speculative) - At 10K miles I have zero issues and I know many others are similar. Some have had issues. Neither us nor CR knows the real numbers. Online Forums and surveys of "members" are not a reliable sampling. CR is making a prediction. I predict the sun will come up tomorrow. I predict that Dwayne Johnson will win the Presidential election. Predictions are just that, nothing more. In Rivian's case, have they adjusted for the vast improvements Rivian has made in the past year?
Owner Satisfaction from Member Surveys - I had a subscription to CR a long time ago for one year. Never renewed it. Since they survey only members, it's a small pool and the Selection Bias is off the charts by the very nature of their mission and subscriber base. It's just not a reliable indicator to me, good or bad.
Safety (Factual) - Rivian has a high safety rating as determined by independent organizations

Best vehicle I have ever owned by far.

Sounds like a gashole wrote the article with an axe to grind. Unfortunately a lot of self-proclaimed "car guys" are just to lazy to do their research on Electric Vehicles and believe a really loud engine is the 'only' way to live.

Hit piece and/or proof of CR being irrelevant…
Positive side, 10 points higher than Jeep!

My R1T was perfect and I’ve only visited the service center for my 7500 mile maintenance. 🤷🏼‍♂️
Is this worth doing? I'm scheduled for tire rotation at discount tire tomorrow and rotations there are free!

Totally subjective I think. My T is my only vehicle so I will always be extra proactive because I don’t want to deal with it being out of commission any more than necessary. So for me it was worth the $60 just for peace of mind. I will probably have new tires by the next recommended interval so I will end up using Discount for that in the future.

Mobile service can also do the 7500 mile but my garage is too small so I had to go to them, but it was no big deal. I wouldn’t stress about it if you decide to not do it. It’s not like they can cancel your warranty or anything like that.

I hear that CR is number 30 on an obscure list for "predicted reliability".

I have had zero problems. Just a handful of software related events that barely raised an eyebrow. This is a real solid effort for a new car company and very satisfying even for non-early adopters.

Its hilarious how in this thread people are shooting the messenger for telling us what surveys told CR.

Yet, just recently CR told us how much owners loved their Rivians. Everybody was good with that one.

There is ample evidence that the other worst car brands on the list do have bad reliability. Like who wasn't heard of Jaguar having bad reliability or Jeep?

I doubt Rivian is going to be on the list next year. It's likely that what was weighing down the reliability scores have been sorted out by now. Like its way more rare to hear about a bricked Rivan in 2024 then it was in 2023, and way less rare than 2022.

It's certainly way too complex of a vehicle to compare against high reliability vehicles, but my prediction is its going to be more like middle range which I'm fine with.

What do you guys think? I love my Rivian and think it's one of the best vehicles that I've owned.
What's the old saying "The squeaky wheel gets the grease".

You only hear about the bad stuff. For example....people love the Volvo brand.....my wife and I not so much. We had the XC40 Recharge and it was in the shop twice in 2 months to replace the same thing. As a brand, it is solid, but for us, not so much.

I think the Consumer Reports article was based on older data when Rivian's were first rolling off the line and there were issues. We had a headlight system issue that took 3 weeks to figure it out and they had to fix it. That doesn't tarnish my thoughts and feelings for our truck. Rivian from start to today has been 15 years......can you imagine what the next 15 years will be like and the great vehicles they will make? The wife and I are putting $100 on the R2 this Thursday.
