Since this VIN is specific to the truck, I immediately think back to that smaller cab version we saw doing winter testing. Small cab, 2 motors, cheap and fast.
I don't know much about the VIN system, but if the Amazon vans are pulling from the same basic pool, they are not quad motor.

Plausible.

I wish someone who snapped pics of the Amazon vans in the wild would have gotten one of the VIN so we could compare.

Word on that was the R1S body parts weren't ready, so they modified R1T just so they could test the R1S skateboard. Apparently no production intent for that "extended cab" model.

I'm thinking it might be for their R2R as its been coined. A smaller "rally" type car wouldn't need the added motors to achieve the same power to weight ratio.
I think we will see more dual motor options for Rivian in other vehicles, but this VIN doc is specific to R1T.

And it frees up space for an extra cooler or duffel bag in the Ultimate Lightbar Super Adventure Power Frunk
haha, now that sounds like a super exciting frunk. I want it!

I believe that was a one-off they fabricated before they had the R1S bodies:

The vans were in motion and filming a commercial when I snapped photos of them. It would have been awkward with me riding on the hood taking down VINs. But it's a price I am willing to pay, so I promise to do better next time.

This explains the mystery surrounding the shorter cab R1T spotted in the Cold Weather Testing video or at least pictures from the same facility.

Does this mean it will be between 8,000 and 9,000 lb? If so that is one heavy truck!

GVWR is the maximum weight the vehicle is able to support. This includes the curb weight of the truck and any payload.

I wonder if the smaller battery pack will be dual motor, instead of quad?

My completely WAG is that digit is either for the vans for amazon, or they plan on building a stripped down fleet version of the truck like Ford is doing with the f-150.

If we go off of the 1,760 lb payload that was previously reported, the R1T could weigh as much as 6,241-7,240 lbs. That payload is no longer listed on their website, so who knows if it's still accurate.

EDIT:
Customer Service just confirmed to me that the payload of the R1T is "1,764 lbs".
This means that if the R1T is in the 8,001-9,000 lb range for GVWR, it's Curb Weight is more than we previously expected... at least 6,241 lbs... maybe more.

Seems high, but I saw some estimates for the F150 Lightning between 6000-6500 lbs so may not be too far off ?‍♂
