Here is a thread to what another person on the forums did.
https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/linerx-r1s-modification.20213/

I took what he did and modified it a little. Grabbed some very short, black screws with a large head to pin the mats down. Drilled a small pilot hole in each spot before screwing in; making sure not to drill to deep to avoid hitting any underlying electronics etc. I cut the linerX mats to fit as needed. I think it turned out pretty awesome and it gives the protection that I need. I wish Rivian offered this option from the factory as i'm sure many people would opt in for it.

What's your use case for this? I imagine it's a daily need, my OCD would kill me for doing that as well as any 3rd row passengers. I'd just lay down a thick blanket anytime I have to bring something large/dirty than permanently damaging the interior. Plus blanket is easy to wash.

If you have a lot of stuff to haul daily like that I could see doing that to your cargo area.

I'm always throwing hockey sticks and gear into the back for the 3 of us that play hockey. I also use it for lumber when doing construction projects around the house. (usually have at least 1 on the go.) Fire wood / camping gear etc etc etc... These vehicles are literally made for the "Adventurous" which usually entails a lot of outdoors and gear... surprising to me that they don't offer a more rugged option from factory.

PS, I still use the third row when needed, functions completely the same.

I have to question your decisions considering you chose a white interior but worried about the carpet…

Cargo doesn't touch the white interior....I also have a husky and that carpet is a hair magnet.
don't regret the white interior decision at all going on almost 2 years of ownership.

The carpet is a pain in the butt to clean, mainly why i did the conversion, the all-weather covering makes it much easier to clean up dirt / hair.

Actually, I am surprised that Rivian has not already offered some durable options.

One the I'd like to see the most instead of carpet is vinyl wood flooring alternative.

In early ID.Buzz concept, it had a such flooring throughout the cabin and it looked great. It would be easy to clean and water resistant. Given that its relatively soft and can be cut and shaped easily, it would be a great differentiator.

I have Tuxmat all weather throughout the 2nd and 3rd row seatbacks and the cargo area for the R1S currently and is great.

The Dune edition has a non-carpet flooring material that is similar to what they upholster the seatbacks with. It would be a great option for Rivian to offer.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe I read/saw that the rear cargo area still has the carpet in the R1S Dune and it's just the passenger areas that have that different, easier to clean flooring.

My old Xterra was a somewhat hard plastic cargo area and back of rear seats, which meant the flat floor with the rear seats down, was fantastic to haul bikes, camping gear, some firewood etc and just wipe down. Made it feel more useful than the more precious? carpeted interior of the R1S I had.

Maybe the woven plastic floors of the Dune Edition, but in the cargo area?
