Curious as to the use case for this idea. You would presumably have to wire them to the door switch so that they could operate on door open/close, so once you're doing that, why not add a power connection?

Maybe it could be possible to use a Bluetooth controled "on and off" through a person's smart Phone? So when you walk up to the vehicle, open your shortcuts and retract the running boards. Then we were in the vehicle ready to go click the smart Phone again to tuck them away? I I'm just thinking out loud…I would think a product like that would work and also ovoid any hardwire connections to the Rivian system.

Doesn't appear to be that hard of an install.

I heard in the video “it works (the running boards are activated) with both doors”

But I didn’t see anyone activate the running boards with the REAR doors. I wonder if this activates with the opening of a rear door too

I have them installed, and opening either door extends the running board on that side. Each side is independent. You can also extend/retract/lock via a bluetooth connection on a companion app.

The Forward jack points are not affected, but the rear points are completely blocked (whether the boards are extended or retracted). Not a huge deal, as the frame rail cover comes off with a few screws ... can be easily jacked there.
