Rivian reputation, what do non-Rivian drivers think about Rivians?

LOL. Re-read what I said...The others are just minivans in disguise.

Yes, in most types of offroad performance.

You would be shocked at how well it drives, even at 90.
Don't need to read it again. You said they aren't Jeeps. They are Jeeps.

And no, a Rivian is not going to compete with a stock Rubicon Wrangler off-road, much less a lifter and modified one. Rock crawling would be a glaringly obvious advantage for the Jeep, but so would other aspects of offloading. Deep mud, snow, anything requiring ground clearance and articulation. Approach and departure angles, you know, the sort of stuff Jeeps do all the time. But I suppose the Rivian could be better on a gravel road.

And no, road manners and comfort on a lifted and big tire Jeep are not anywhere near as good as something like what I drive. It's not even close.

I'm on a Jeep forum. And an Audi forum too. Oh, and a Rivian forum as well. Because that's what I do.

And since you think you know, I'll set you straight, because you rrally dont: I'm no huge offroader guy. My Jeep does in fact have really good capabilities for a midsized SUV, but if I wanted a true offroader, I'd be driving a Wrangler, period. My Jeep is more of an all-around road trip vehicle for all seasons, all uses, all locations. My Audi is basically a toy. It's a modified road rocket that was built (not bought) more for the track than the street. But it's used much more on the street than the track. Go figure, priorities change over time.

Rivian is an interest and an unfortunate investment. And now Scout is a big interest as well. I see both as possible replacements for the Jeep, but not quite yet because EV technology just isn't quite enough for me to make the switch. Too many drawbacks that I'm not willing to make right now, but maybe in a few years. I'm very interested to see what happens with Scout. The idea of a gas range extender definitely makes some of those EV issues a non-factor for me.
I don't want an extra toy car; having multiple vehicles per person annoys me. I'm selling my motorcycle this year because it just sits in my garage. My Trimax is quicker and gives me the same thrills the bike did while being virtually silent and completely comfortable. We already have my wife's M car should I want the true sports car experience but even then my Trimax is faster and feels as nasty. I can do 4 wheel burnouts around turns at will and if you're not careful you'll look like a Mustang at a cars and coffee.

I'm glad I went full EV. The convenience of owning an EV is greater than the drawbacks of having one. That's true for anyone who drives under 200 miles daily and has a place to charge at home. Even on road trips, EV charging is a well-known drawback, but the advantages are never discussed. The fact that my EV is quieter and I'm forced to take longer rest periods between legs of the trip means I am much more refreshed upon arrival and the ADAS system is better than in my previous cars so that further reduces my stress level.

I used to avoid trips 1k miles or further driving because I hated the drive so much but it's tolerable in the Rivian.

It's unreal that being in CA, cops just don't care. That vehicle is so illegal there, in fact there's basically nothing legal, including the engine taken from a late Corvette. Police will walk up and tell him how cool it is and ask questions.
Things have apparently changed over the years. As a young man, I was a motorcycle officer on the Tallahassee Police Department. If your tires were outside fender coverage and your vehicle splashed my motor, you held paper.

That's definitely how it was a long time ago in the same place, but maybe they've figured out that there's real work to do instead. We were both constantly in trouble with our local asshole, officer Barnes, for dozens of things. He crashed a 5.0 Mustang attempting to chase me, and it only got deeper from there.

Yeah, I may get there some day, but fir now I still enjoy having multiple vehicles and being able to work on them too. I don't know for sure, but I'll probably always have at least one car in my garage to mess around with.

We all need hobbies, nothing wrong with that.

Nothing but positive and lots of it even though I am in the rural Inland Pacific Northwest. Most common comments are:

How do you like it? A: Most fun car I have ever had - by a mile!
What is it? Answer: Rivian, Q: Yes, but who makes it?
Is it electric?
Where is it made?
What is the range?
How long to get one?

And number 1 comment:
That is one good looking truck! unlike that other monstrosity.

110 mph is still more than enough for a truck or SUV. I very rarely go faster than that in my Jeep.
Agreed. But sometimes you're in a one lane highway going on the 395 and you got like 8 slow cars ahead of you going 60 in a 65 and everyone else doesn't know how to overtake slow vehicles in a one lane highway with passing lanes available. You have to pass all of them at once before the other side of the traffic comes. This is when you need 120 mph top speed at least.

Or just for fun!

A Motorcycle Policeman's main job is traffic enforcement and accident investigation. This is the real work of the motor officer.

That doesn't keep municipalities from having them do real work instead, regardless of vehicle. This is what seems to have happened both there in my old hood where he lives, and in my area. We've had moto officers respond in my neighborhood for real crime, I assume because of mobility, but didn't ask.

To be fair, speeding and traffic violations are real crimes; they have a reputation for being overly enforced. Where I live, the police give a lot of latitude to speeding. It's routine to see an officer pass you while doing 10 over. They strike a good balance, and we need the ones we have. Without them, people would go faster and faster, and many more accidents would happen. It would cost lives. These traffic officers enforce the rules so we aren't all Rucking ourselves into pizza restaurants.

The problem is the areas where police don't use sense when pulling people over.

The law says they're not, they're just a civil violation of mostly arbitrary rules.

It's been well proven that they won't, most drivers will find a natural speed. The fastest-running highway in my area has few wrecks.
Wrong. If you’re speeding too far over the limit it’s reckless driving and it’s not a forfeiture but something you can be arrested for.

Sure, if you want to change the context, of course. "Traffic violations" is a different thing.
