According to a service center technician, the recall involves a software-related issue that cannot be updated OTA because it is tied to the module. For affected vehicles, a physical headlight module with the correct programming is prepared at the service center and replaced during mobile service appointments. The replacement process is quick. Vehicles from Gen 1 are not affected by this recall.

Totally unrelated to EVSE model or manufacturer. It’s a known issue with at least more recent builds - Rivian say its operating as designed - it’s a total mess. DM me if you need more details.

This post has a summary of users on here with the issue: https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/...-at-24f-should-i-be-worried.37845/post-729531
First time I ever heard about this and definitely don’t experience it in my Gen2 max. Literally every charge session, whether adding a few kwh or >half the pack in temperatures 5-50 degrees have been completely flat for me. Guess I’ll report myself in that thread as not having a problem.

The recall affects my 2025 R1T, although I haven't seen the issue—and it's been cold! I will see if they can do it on my 7500-mile inspection next month!

I'm not upset here. Hardly a vehicle I have owned in 55 years, many, has not had at least one recall. Like my 2003 $65k Chevy dumping diesel into the oil pan reserve! I just hate to see our emerging company have such a cost. I hope the removed lights can be retooled/recycled with a fix to reduce costs.
If a car is nor the subject of a recall at least once, they are hiding something lol

Please do! Getting data points for folks that are not seeing the awful charging performance is really important - I’m growing increasingly suspicious that there was a silent component/specification change at some point during the gen2 production run.

FWIW, our RS1 has been in the shop for 3.5 weeks; supposed to be done next week. I contacted the service center and asked if they could fix this issue now so I don't have to bring the vehicle in again. They said they don't yet have what they need to address the recall, so I'll have to wait until I get a recall notice.

Then how could they have missed that gen2 Max packs thermal system cannot support Level2 charging at rated capacity in cool (sub 50f) ambient temperatures, or were they aware and decided to ship anyway?
You have this backwards.

They *DID* notice that it was a problem and that's WHY it charges at lower speeds. The battery control module (BCM) controls the power going into the battery and the BCM is programmed by Rivian and its suppliers based on lab testing.

If they "missed" anything it would have been that charging the battery at low temperatures at full speed damaged the cells.

Edit, TLDR: I'm sorry I think you have it backwards - though I may not have been as clear as I could have been. The issue is exactly the one you highlight - they put into production a thermal system that was unable to bring the battery pack up to temp.

My point being that this is a regression from how gen1 NMC packs (large and max) behave. To your point they mitigated this in the BMS; but what is being missed is that they have to mitigate this by stepping down the power as the gen2 thermal management system is unable to preheat the battery to the required temps to enable charging at 48A above ~80% SOC in sub ~50f conditions. This is clearly a bug that should not have made it into the field at the scale it has and should have been caught relatively early in development of the gen2 R1s - the best indication of this not being accounted for is that the 'time remaining' indicator is totally out of line with reality - it will quite happily say that there is ~3 hours remaining, which at each step down adjusts upwards. Compare this to gen1, which was industry leading in its accuracy.

Anyone been called/scheduled to have the fix applied or already had it done?

Anybody got this recall done? SC said it only takes less than 30 minutes to fix.
