Rawlinson is an opinionated porcupine.
Magna could pick up the parts business.
I agree Rawlinson is not the most convincing CEO to deserve the big paycheck.
What do you that Magna could pick up the parts business? They do need more revenue as Fisker, Jaguar, and BMW projects will expire or early terminated. Fisker Gmbh (Austria entity and Magna are reorganizing and will receive funding for their partnership. I don't know what there goals or future will look like but I would love Fisker to live on sans Henrik Fisker and his wife).

Lucid is not a direct competitor with Rivian. Those of us on this forum who love Rivian can also love Lucid, IMO. I mean, seriously. Their tech is off the charts good. Rivian has a great product, but nothing is more efficient than a Lucid Air. We should admire that, and personally I am rooting for them to be successful. It is a harder road for them than Rivian has, but it is possible for them to not only succeed, but lead their market segment.

More of a direct competitor the the Model Y. A soft-roader. Will there be cross shoppers? of course. But majority buyers just want something that can take them to work, to dinner, to the mall, to the grocery store, to the kids' school and soccer practice, etc., etc.. They don't need or want off-road chops. Some will want it. Whether they will use it is a different story. The real question is can Lucid ramp to actually compete in numbers? not for many years. That said, they won't go under. They have the Saudi sovereign investment fund (PIF) behind them and they actually have good tech they can sell/license to others—product of Elmo pushing out actually good people, to surround himself with butt sniffers.

Doesn't look like a true SUV.
Yeah, and most of the write ups so far call it a Crossover, which as you suggest, is not an SUV.

Doesn't look like a true SUV.
The meaning of SUV has been seriously abused by automakers for decades now. What most call an "SUV" today is really just a crossover.

Street cars on stilts, or platform shoes. Majority just look sporty or "rugged", but aren't at all. City slicker after REI shopping spree.

I am just basing my comment on the fact that Rivian is #1 in most loved vehicles (Consumer reports) and customer satisfaction (JD Power APEAL). On the CR customer satisfaction rating the R1T is running significantly ahead of the Air (especially on value where owners rate the Air a horrible 33 out of 100) and the 2022 grand touring low mileage is in the low to mid-60k range vs current retail in the 120-130k where as a similar R1T / R1S is retaining about 70% of its value vs current retail (+/- given changes in configuration). But I could be off base. Lucid should show up in more surveys next year.
Yeah I think we need to see more data points. But we just had a thread where someone lost 30% of their R1S value after 16 weeks as valued by the Rivian trade in. So, I am not sure there’s going to be a huge value retention for Rivians moving forward.

Should’ve called it Lucid Mars just to troll Elon.

And, to be fair, it looks as much SUV as the Ioniq 5 does.

Looks like Lucid is sticking to the hearse styling. I can buy something despite the looks, but the ownership bothers me.

The Gravity is interesting but in all the media it looks more like a minivan than a SUV. For now I prefer the Rivian styling.

I agree they are different vehicles. Will be interesting to see what they come up with.

Sorry, but nobody aspires to own a Lucid. Nobody. The cars are not selling and resale values are in the toilet.

When their Saudi sugar daddy turns off the money faucet it's game over for Lucid and Rawlinson will walk away a very wealthy man.

No trucks - and I believe this includes TRUE SUVs. Lucid is targeting sedan/crossover/minivan types. Really cool cars and hope the best for them - but other than being new and electric, they’re not really competing with any Rivian.

Unless someone comes with a boxy SUV, then I don't think they will compete with Rivian R1 or R2. That's not good or bad, it just doesn't mean compete.

Ah the old “Tesla is going to make it, even with all the federal money” line.
I'm not even sure what that means. Lucid delivered only 6000 vehicles in 2023 and both production and deliveries were lower in H2/23 than they were in 2022 which is not a great trend. Also, they produced more but couldn't sell them. Turns out there isn't a big market for $200K luxury sedans with software problems. Now that Benz is making a viable competitor, Lucid is going to try and make an SUV/cross over but that market is heavily saturated. Ask Fisker how it's going.
