I did an extensive walkthrough of the R2 today. I should have brought a tape measure because I could have measured everything literally.

They are moving the NACS port to the rear driver (left) like a Tesla. I guess RAN stations will have the parking issue instead going forward.

The frunk though smaller is still useful. The folding floor seems a bit redundant but should still hide the mobile charger. No camp speaker or compressor but 12V 120V.

Feels about a foot lower (5.5' vs 6.5' R1S) and shorter 1' and narrower 6" as well. It's 4Runner sized vs full size Landcruiser/LX size.

Suspension is still a beefy setup similar to the R1. It appears the wheelbase is shared with the R3 entirely and the overhangs are what makes the R3 smaller.

The under floor space is smaller, about the size of the floating R1S insert so no spare tire well in the prototype.

Cargo is big. Not quite the R1S with third row folded but bigger than any vehicle of that size.

Seating room is very generous in the first and second rows. It might be better than the R1 and feels just as wide though logically it can't be. Second row is rumored to have a little tilt adjustment. The prototype does not.

We were there today in Pasadena as well @HaveBlue
The VP that was talking today was saying the back opening could fit a sheet of plywood (4feet wide) I used my camera phone to measure 3 and a half feet deep to the back of the 2nd row seats. Only thing I couldn’t get was the height with that dip in the ceiling but it looks great!

Seems reasonable. The 4runner also has a 4' wide gate. Typically narrower and needing to go over the wheel wells. I'm not sure how tall the opening is. It could be lower than other cars.

I made a R2 reservation the day after the intro, and received that 1 email. But nothing since then.
Has anyone else heard from Rivian? Seems like they would have a monthly company email or something just to keep us engaged. Just curious.

See Tesla CyberTruck reservation holders. Most are still waiting on their vehicles and it’s been over 4 years. Neither company has a great track record with communication. In fact most companies in general aren’t very good at communicating, period.

Ugh just called them, it's already on the way to San Francisco. I think we need dedicated thread on where it is at any given weekend.

The charge port location change and this VP was emphasizing that he has kids and wanted to make sure that the second row had lots of room even with rear facing car seats. He also mentioned there will
Be atleast 8 exterior colors with some shared with R1 and a few exclusive colors. He mentioned test drives should be able to start a quarter before the deliveries start. He said it could be as soon as Last quarter 25’ if they can have it ready for first quarter 26’ deliverables but if it’s second quarter 26’ delivery then the test drives could start first quarter 26’. He also mentioned tow hooks will be available on the All Terrain package. The base vehicle wont have the tow hooks.
They also mentioned a spare tire would be available as an option. I asked if it would be be full size or a donut and they said donut most likely. Some other execs that were there later in the weekend look like they mentioned a full size spare so who knows what it’ll be. Nice to have the option though if we want a spare.

My guess is that they are buying time by having events with the R2 and R3/X over the next several months so that: 1) people can see them and it keeps interest for folks in different geographic areas; and 2) they can have active social media posts for the next 5 months on the vehicles. Then maybe Q2 2025 they have more information about specs? I think the goal is to keep the momentum while they also can continue to post financials showing progressively decreasing losses on R1s. That's my hope, anyway.

What’s the guess on the configurator going live? 3-4 months before production?
