Clayco? I don't care who is going to put up the walls, the ceiling, and dig the sewer. I care who has the deep manufacturing and battery expertise to produce quality stuff, along with the requisite supply chain relationships. Like Panasonic, CATL, LG Chem, or Samsung. Did Rivian partner with any of these?

Worth noting that SK Battery has a huge facility near Commerce, maybe 50 miles from where Rivian will be building. I don't know if that was a factor in Rivian selecting Georgia for the site, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if it was. That SK Battery facility, which makes EV batteries, was also built by Clayco.

Yeah... While Clayco seems to have some experience constructing advanced manufacturing facilities and they are also building the VINFast plant in North Carolina, their entire 2022 Revenue was only 5.2B. Which means the Rivian project alone is almost as much as their entire 2022 Revenue was. Hope they are up for the challenge of such a large project.

Their contract is not for 5b, that number is for the entire plant, not just the contractor fees.

RJ said that the R2 will qualify for the full $7500 tax credit. I hope one of the nearby battery plants is the domestic supplier.

Rivian just got ownership of the land last month, after the state did its part to re-zone, defend against litigation, then grade and prepare the site, including infrastructure improvements. The state is spending $1.5 billion on this project ...

This article gives some more information:

It sounds like, with groundbreaking happening shortly, that they've basically got everything designed and planned and ready to go.

This is a major milestone, and demonstrates Rivian is still right on track for the R2.

Hopefully this week RJ will anounce an early Jan event for R2 reveal and factory groundbreaking.
Yeah I was just wondering if they might time up the R2 reveal with the ground breaking on the new facility.

I hope RJ decides to drive a few prototypes (1 for each model type) to the groundbreaking event. It would be a fun way to do the R2 reveal and provide a tangible example showing the purpose of the factory. I think the event would be a hit.

I personally think the groundbreaking and the R2 reveal should be very distinct events. You don't lump all the good news into one press event, because that just dilutes the good news. Rivian should make the most of each of these things separately, and get TWO stock bumps out of it, not just one.
