I have the original A2Z NACS adapter, but it was recalled and they just sent me the new Typhoon NACS to CCS adapter for free. It's definitely "beefier" and feels like a quality product.

On the other hand, I just received the Rivian NACS adapter in the mail and it feels like a chincy POS. On the upside, it is lighter and smaller than the A2Z Typhoon.

Does anyone know if there are any real differences between the two? Does the A2Z "void" my Rivian warranty?

Thoughts?

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
The A2Z is beefier, but the Rivian one won't cause warranty issues if a charger welds itself to your truck.

I have both, and prefer the A2Z, but will use the Rivian one every time for warranty purposes.

“Rivian” one is Tesla. Typoon Pro was designed to a draft of UL2252 specs. The Tesla one isn’t, but is approved by Tesla and Rivian.

If the differences aren’t evident to you, watch reviews of each on State of Charge YouTube channel.

I've used both a number of times. Both have been flawless and easy to use. I keep both in the car so I have an emergency spare.

If you're wondering how 'tough' they are (I have both), the Rivian one has survived a 5' drop (with additional lateral acceleration) onto hard concrete in a pouring rainstorm - and still works flawlessly.

My son was detaching it from a Tesla station last month in the pouring rain. As he slid the lock and pulled the adapter off, it went flying out of his wet hands. Landed a few feet away with a thud. He shook the rainwater out of it, and we drove away. We've used it many times since then with zero ill effects -- but it is scratched and scuffed like crazy.

My summation:

Typhoon Pro - Best functionally

Rivian/Tesla - Best financially (in case of any issues at a Supercharger)
Interesting. Have you seen better performance (kWh rate) with the Typhoon?

Speaking of A2Z, anyone else getting the extension cable when it comes out? I know, I know, “extension cables bad” but in a pinch I want the flexibility of plugging in anywhere when at a busy supercharger, even if it derates (slows) the charge speed.

The difference is that in the off chance there is some kind of issue charging, and it can be proven that it was due to the A2Z charger, then Rivian will be off the hook for your warranty claims.
There is probably little (if any) difference in the quality or function of those particular 2 chargers themselves .......

I am assuming the Rivian issued adapter should be compatible with other EV brands that have access to Superchargers. Has anyone tried theirs on any EV besides R1?

Same adapter. It’s just a pass through device, that adapts one receptacle to another.
