I know the 4G vs 5G argument has been going on in these forums for a while. This job positing is super interesting… 5G, always connected cars, etc…

As the Staff Product Manager, Cellular Network Infrastructure & IoT Platform, you will be responsible for driving connectivity features to enable an always connected multi-cellular and multi-access connectivity to Rivian vehicles, thereby allowing robust connectivity for not only today’s adventures but tomorrow’s as well. Specifically, you will define, guide, and build a best-in-class IoT connectivity platform that allows Rivian to manage all aspects of connectivity spanning all carriers and connectivity types across our global fleet of consumer/commercial vehicles and connected devices. This is a high impact role with meaningful cross-functional visibility as connectivity is the foundation in which Rivian vehicle functionality is built upon. A ground floor opportunity to revolutionize the connected and autonomous vehicle segment with an always connected vehicle that uploads thousands of signals every minute

This Is What You’ll Do

  • Work with design, platform, in-vehicle and data engineering teams to drive platform related connectivity management features and integration efforts with cellular carriers and eSIM providers.
  • Build out Rivian’s core network and private LTE/CBRS infrastructure/platform that is scalable to millions of connected devices.
  • Work with various internal teams across Rivian to aggregate connectivity health data across all vehicles and devices to produce ML based insights and recommendations.
  • Drive product features to support international and new vehicle model expansion needs around carrier selection, integration, connectivity configurations, and data privacy.
  • Develop a holistic vision and execution path for enabling additional connectivity types such as 5G, satellite, and open roaming and for supporting the high bandwidth requirements of autonomous vehicles.
  • Partner with engineering to maintain a common data model across service providers and facilitate API integrations across both internal and 3rd party applications/tools.
  • Develop product features around cellular and Wi-Fi data prioritization, including segmenting data traffic and setting vehicle/network policies.
