Hadn’t seen this posted here so I figured it was worth sharing. riviantrackr was the first to post/break the story over on Twitter.

Rivian VP of Manufacturing Tim Fallon shared some new information today at the Rivian 3rd Annual Family & Friends Day in Normal, IL.

“We’re well over a 100,000 pre-orders for R2, and those continue to climb — and they really climb organically,” Fallon said. “As we really push R1 and R1 Gen 2 and continue to get our current product out there, the R2 continues to increase in pre-orders.”

Sure hope they honor "first come/first served" when it comes to assigning VIN's. It was very stressful clicking "refresh" like a hundred times waiting for the order page to go live 😄

SAME! I wasn't the first, but I WAS one of the first and so I'm hoping for early assignment.

As I recall, Rivian said they would prioritize R1 owners for early R2 deliveries.

Best wishes!

We all know from the cyberdump debacle, that it has more to do with the conversion rate than actual numbers
True, but Rivian is on a very positive trajectory and if they build momentum the conversion rate should be very solid. Lot's of entries already coming into the market, at or below that price point already....The R2 is going to appeal to the 4Runner /Tacoma crowd, so it should be huge.

Price will be key in order conversion Rates. The Cybertruck is just too expensive for mass appeal. Rivian’s “$45k” R2 target seems optimistic to me with first deliveries perhaps being dual motor at $55k or so and Tri-Motor at $63k. The $45k tier maybe announced for later delivery with only a single motor and small LFP battery.

So realistically, if someone were to order an R2 today when will it be delivered?
Depends on if you currently own a Rivian and how many people who order own one. They will have a flex capacity to make as many as 155k R2 units annually in Normal.

It is not beyond reason to think they could meet all current reservations in 2027, maybe sooner for current Rivian owners.

Future R2
I’m concerned at how low the R2 reservations are at this point. We are 4.5 months from the reveal and to have less than one years worth of full scale production of the R2 at Normal only, without Georgia, is an issue.

For comparison, the Cybertruck had 250k reservations within a week of the reveal and that vehicle was priced $60-100k. Reservations grew to over 2 million dispute the fact that a lot of people can’t stand the look of the Cybertruck. Sure a huge majority of those reservations will never convert to an order, but it does indicate general interest. Both R2 and Cybertruck had the same $100 refundable deposit.

The R2 is supposed to be Rivian’s mass market vehicle, but reservations aren’t backing up that claim. Some may argue that Rivian is focusing to sell more R1s but most people can’t afford an $80k+ vehicle. Those people would be reserving an R2. Where are the masses?
