We know that they previously imported LG Chem batteries as well.

I'm curious about the actual deciding factors, but we'll probably never know. Cost, supply availability, sustainable sourcing, performance, reliability, consistency, etc.

All of the reasons are important factors, but I sincerely hope ramp-up capabilities played a heavy hand.

It’s interesting that they had been using LG Chem in the past, yet ended up with Samsung. I suspect availability had a lot to do with it. Panasonic probably wasn’t in the running because Tesla is buying all their supply (Tesla wishes Panasonic would produce more).

Yeah, and LG Chem is getting pretty tight with GM, so some politics could have been at play there too. All in all, I think this could be huge for Samsung, and I just hope it's good for us as well from a quality standpoint.

I wonder if the LG Chem/Kona recall was a factor
Unlikely. It was a manufacturing issue on a pouch cell produced at a specific factory during a specific time frame.

Is this why they were in South Korea couple weeks back? Very interesting

With this being in the news cycle, this week, I wonder if Rivian will choose to release information on range and charging speeds if they do a "dump"?

Likely related, probably a show & tell of some sort for SDI execs or employees.

I'm also curious how Rivian made the "announcement." Clearly a press release, but they did not post the press release on their website with their other releases. I looked in the major wires and did not see anything. Maybe someone savvier can track down the full press release.
