I received my charging adapter in early December 2024, I purchased my R1S December of 2023. Has anyone had any issues with parking because of the location of the charging port on a Rivian versus a Tesla? I had two options either block two parking spaces which would have not gone over well or park in the handicap space. I decided to park in the handicap space which led to my vehicle sticking out into the drive aisle. Any solution to this?

I charged several times over the Xmas holiday on a roadtrip. As long as there was nobody waiting (and I would have moved instantly), I used the handicap charger stall because it was wider and allowed the Rivian to charge without disrupting the other Teslas. I never left the truck, so I'd be ready to move in an instant if a handicap Tesla driver arrived. And no, I didn't feel guilty using that stall. I thought I was in fact being considerate by not taking two stalls.

This is not unique to Superchargers, I have been to an EVGo and EA station in my travels where vehicles were parked and charging in manners where an open unit was inaccessible. I have also been to Supercharger stations where I could charge without blocking units (Destin Florida is a great layout).

In the scenario where it is not possible to charge without blocking a unit the other people just need to be patient.

If they give you too much grief suggest that maybe they should purchase a Rivian as then that stall next to you would be perfectly acceptable. ?

Put it on high, straddle curbs, come around the backside in the grass/dirt/gravel, Handicap space, are all good options. Do what you can to minimize disruptions for others and you'll be good.

Fortunately, the Supercharger station(s) I have used were not crowded: I just parked at the adjacent station, so the cable was a short reach to my left front. Technically, I only used ONE parking spot, but was essentially using two Superchargers. I’m glad no one was waiting.

If at all possible, i choose the rightmost charger because i can charge without taking two spaces. Some SC locations have parking on both sides of the chargers which is handy.

I just finished a long trip and thought the same thing about RAN chargers for other vehicles (when it happens). The cable were obviously the shortest I encountered and tailored to Rivians with ports on the front left, except for one case where the RAN chargers were reversed for ports on the front right. In this last situation I had to actually use the opposing charger to plug in my Rivian to a Rivian charger.

I've been able to bias over to the far right hand side of the parking space and then pull the R1S far enough forward in the stall that the Supercharger cable will (just barely) reach.

I suspect it depends on the station and whether there are bollards (my new favorite EV related word) preventing this maneuver.

Just park centered with the dispenser like my avatar and ignore the lines on the pavement. The cable reaches and cars on either side can do the same including teslas and reach. That won't block a second dispenser typically. Tesla's instructions apply more to Ford's and Porsches with really bad port Locations.

I have seen people say that if you are able to park on the backside of the charger do that.

What this means is if the chargers are on a island and the parking spot to charge is in front of the charger like normal , people park on the otherside and connect that way.
