I would interpret the part I bolded as saying anything that doesn't cause a "breakdown" is not going to be covered. A faulty tailgate latch is definitely not within my definition of breakdown and I would expect the insurance company to be right on the edge of unreasonably strict. The suspension might not be covered either unless it is so bad it forces the vehicle into turtle mode.

You're interpreting it wrong and the language you quoted is very standard service contract language.

The cost is a huge factor. This is not good news if it's crazy expensive, like a BMW service contract.

Wonder what the costs breakdowns will be? Tire protection is something I always buy considering the potholes in the northeast.

I would assume and hope that tire protection isn't part of this; most likely it will be for actual vehicle issues. You can get general tire protection dirt cheap from many sources. It cost me around $50 per tire for full replacement coverage through Discount Tire.

Bmw extended warranty and service contact are two separate things.

I'm guessing for our R1s still under warranty, a 3 year/36k miles coverage to cost around $5k.

I am glad Rivian is finally offering extended warranty. As previously mentioned the suspension is my main concern along with all the electronics.

Another fact is only Rivian can do most of the warranty / out of warranty repair and has the parts to finish the work as soon as possible.

I am interested in seeing what is pricing base on mileage / year and how much is excluded from the warranty coverage.

Thanks for sharing this news.

This is huge! Can't wait to see the pricing. Currently aftermarket that goes to 150k miles is $5-8k, I suspect this will cost about $6k to match battery warranty.

I was strongly considering getting rid of my Rivian before the 60k miles but with this I would keep it for at least 170k miles.

Like everyone else I am very concerned over the suspension especially knowing people are getting failures at 67k miles.

I wish it allowed you to pick what you want covered... LOL

Can we get the title of this thread changed to better reflect the announcement, maybe something like this:,

It looks like tire protection IS part of it. Unless I am reading that wrong.

Reads "available in all states" or am i reading this wrong

" Rivian Care Vehicle Service Contract and Rivian Care Preferred Vehicle Protection are provided and administered by United Service Protection Corporation (TX License #106; CA License #0D01816) in all states except Florida - United Service Protection, Inc. (FL License #60016) and Oklahoma - Assurant Service Protection, Inc. (OK License #44199246). These companies operate under the trade name Assurant."

How i read that
  • In most states: The provider is United Service Protection Corporation.
  • In Texas: Same company, but they list their Texas license number (#106).
  • In California: Same company, with California license number (#0D01816).
  • In Florida: The provider is United Service Protection, Inc., with Florida license #60016.
  • In Oklahoma: The provider is Assurant Service Protection, Inc., with Oklahoma license #44199246.
I believe that what you posted is the legal disclaimer stating where the policy can or cannot be written by specific underwriters, etc. based on state laws regarding warranties. There is a FAQ:
