I’m reconsidering my El Cap reservation, thinking the world doesn’t need another drab black-grey truck. That got me looking through Google Images for other colored Rivians, including this silver one below.

The wheels of this R1T caught my eye. I believe they’re a little different than what is shipping. Then I saw the aero covers. If they’ve already got them designed it sure would be nice if they would make them available. Then I wondered if maybe they didn’t make enough difference to mileage.

No it just looks like backshadow plus a lower resolution image for the web.

Actually to me it does look like aero covers otherwise the middle of the caliper wouldn’t be blocked out
You’re right. That’s what I get for looking at the picture on my cellphone. I retract my comments. Apologies.

I am curious to how much of a difference this would make in terms of range. However, can’t imagine it would be a big difference. Nothing will eliminate the rolling resistance of the 20s

They are definitely aero inserts - for a while Rivian had mules/prototypes with aero inserts on the 20" AT wheels we know and love. Here's a closeup I took at the Seattle preview event way back in 2019:

I can only imagine they didn't make enough difference to make up for the fact that they're pretty tacky looking and fussy. The AT tire is going to account for more range loss than the aero of the wheel design; no sense chasing marginal gains here if you already picked the least efficient tire.

(Bonus easter egg: Check out the mesh screen in the aero vent on the back of the wheel well!)

Probably didn’t take them long to figure out no amount of “aero” will counteract those AT tires.

The original prototype had aero inserts on the 20s.

It looks to me like they tweaked the design to make the “staples” wider on the production vehicles. That would have made the aero covers even smaller and less effective.

Anyone thinking of making some aftermarket aero covers for the 20's?

I got my truck from the shop in August and got what I got to get it faster. My original config was for the 21's.
