Here is Electrek’s take on the story.

I think a lot of the success of Rivian and Tesla here can be attributed to the fact that most people who go electric don’t want to go back to gas, but Rivian certainly seems to be in a league of its own. My experience talking to Rivian owners matches that survey. They are a happy bunch other than some service visits, which is not unusual for new vehicle programs.

I am sure many if not most of us have had issues with our RIvians; what impresses me is how Rivian handles my issues. I realize there is still tons of room for Rivian to improve, however, when I compare my service and warranty experience with other premium brands like JLR, Audi, Porsche and maybe even Tesla (if one considers them "premium"), Rivian has been way more responsive.
Agree.

The chart below shows Rivian as having the lowest predicted reliability. You'd think that would correlate to Rivian being lower in Owner Satisfaction but it doesn't.

This goes to show how amazing the vehicles are, even with minor problems (and some major ones), and how good their overall support and service is. Even the long service queue times don't stop us from loving the brand.

Interesting Lucid is not in the list. Maybe their production volumes are too low. I bet they would be fighting for last place with Rivian. And that is really too bad, because Rivian and Lucid are my two favorite car brands now. Sigh.

I took the survey and it asks for subjective satisfaction and objective reliability numbers. I am sure most of us had issues, but most are also not the kind that disable the vehicle or cause safety issues. Mine certainly were not in this category.

Poor reliability should not be a surprise to anyone, especially as it does not differentiate the fit/finish/noise issues and others. Not to mention the locking/unlocking was a problem for almost everyone.

We’ve had our R1s in the shop 6 times over 8 months, but we are extremely satisfied with the brand and the way in which service accommodates us. This is a new brand & model with low production volume so we are not delusional that it should have the consistency in quality of a Toyota Camry. It is not fair to compare it to a brand that‘s had a decade or longer of production history.

The Rivian interior is pretty good, and having an SUV which actually moves around quickly is amazing. It makes every other large car feel like a sloth in comparison. Reliability is a problem and range is a lie, but the experience, overall, is very good.
