I seem to recall another outfit saying it would be tough to replace the silver part since it is ultrasonically welded to other plastic parts, or something to that effect. But maybe an alternative is possible?

It's not welded, just uses normal automotive clips, and some bolts going through the interior part of the panel. Some of them are retention clips from inside the cavity though, those retainers need to be removed to separate the pieces. Possible to get them out without pulling the entire bumper, but it's hard.
