I only found the dynamic glass roof option presented in passing in other YouTube reviews and since I just took delivery of a 2025 Rivian R1S with this option I figured I'd make a quick video to pay it forward for others considering this option. Takeaway: it's better than I thought it would be given the commentary I've read on the forum.

Well I have to wait till summer. Yesterday clear skies in southern California, sunny. Temp inside the truck reached 111. Outside temp 69. Dynamic roof was on. Now I will have sunshade on my windshield and check later see if that makes difference. If not roof sun shade for sure. Here goes that 1500 or 2500 for premium sound and glass to trash. Plus i have to spend 50 or so for roof sunshade and will look ugly. But need to survive heat.

Glad I’m not the only one not feeling the got their moneys worth on the 2500 light and sound package
The roof is a cool party trick but it’s winter in NY so hard to gauge sun blocking ability
And I’m very disappointed in the sound system … and I’ve tried playing with the EQ and the sound options

Not surprisingly, a lot of light/heat comes in from the front window and drivers and passenger front row windows which have negligible tint due to regulations in many states. I think the win (other than tint, which would be illegal in NJ) would be adding a front windshield reflective shade - I have the RIvian one on order and plan to test it this summer.

I have the basic sound, which with 12 speakers and 600 watts should be sufficient but from the drivers seat it sounds like listening to music with pillows tied to my ears.

Weirdly, I tested sound while sitting in the second row and it's much clearer. Not as crisp as a B&O system or Meridian (or even Tesla) but certainly passable. Not sure why it's so bad in the front.

Thanks for sharing but I think the zoom made it very pixelated. I saw one in person and I can't say I am a fan. The milky white color reminds me of baby barf.

I tinted my windows including windshield and it managed the Texas heat pretty well last year. I bought a sunshade but never ended up using it. I still would love to have a metal roof rather than these damn pano roofs that Tesla and Rivian uses. Give me a metal roof with an opening sunroof and I'd be a 1000x happier!

Not sure what happened with the video, reposted with more normal zoom. Sorry about that!

If you use Apple Music and haven't turned off the sound check feature in the settings, try that. It is night and day with it off.

I’ve been reluctant to try (pay) for Apple Music but I might try it at this point

stupid question : is the sound quality any better if I plug my iPhone into usb-c instead of BT? Will it play music that way?

I cancelled the dynamic glass and put xpel really dark tint. The good thing is it covers both sun roof. Dynamic glass only works on main sunroof. Use a fold out screen on front glass.

No, Rivian doesn't have USB support yet, unfortunately.

Where did you get the information that it's using power when clear and the "off" state is opaque? I posed that question during pickup but the SC told me the opposite.

Kyle from OOS mentioned it in one of his videos but in general this is how electrochromatic glass functions, opaque with no current applied and transparent when current is applied. Makes sense for an EV where you want the inactive/no current state to block light when the vehicle is 'off' to prevent excess cabin heating which adds eventual load to the cooling system.

Thanks, @carsly I'd say it operates about exactly as I expected and I'm happy to have it. Knocks down the direct sunlight a bit - enough so that I think I won't install a ceiling shade
