This is fine. I have used mine only twice since receiving last May. Because of the charge port location I don’t enjoy using NACS. I also never use my portable charger that came with the Rivian. Makes sense that both of these could be purchased separately.

Either way costs do need to be controlled, I am expecting that in 2 yrs who really cares is the attitude. I bought my A2Z adapter for NACS and destination charging...I used the destination more than the NACS. I am hoping there isnt a repeat of late last year of adapters needing to be replaced...I hope there is some UL listing or certification for either way...yes I plan to buy one and probably pickup a Tesla subscription for charging when it gets there...

Bad move imo. Probably cost the $40. Sell a car you can’t fill up. Wtf
I have an adapter but have never had to use it. I dislike Elon so much I’m happy to use EVgo or pretty much anything that doesn’t support that guy. Has worked out fine so far.

Correct. I too, am betting the switchover to NACS is about to happen.
When R1s start being delivered with built in NACS ports, do you think Rivian will include the CCS -> NACS adapter for free? Would be awkward if Rivians can't even charge at their own Rivian Adventure Network chargers without having to pay for an adapter.

By the time that happens, they’ll convert RAN to NACS. And it won’t happen overnight. So folks will need to buy adapter. They will need to anyway if they want flexibility to charge at legacy EA, EVgo, etc..

I got mine in early December. We have a Tesla charging station a few miles from the house, and I used it once to teach myself how to use the adapter. Will probably use it again when I need to quickly top off the battery for something.

It stores nicely into the door pocket!

You can definitely “fill up” without a Tesla NACS adapter.
Also, for 2025 they are shifting to production of a NACS charger in the car, making an adapter unnecessary

do some research before posting

I am not sure on that one. Tesla does but who knows what Rivian’s plans are

This is a sign that R1’s with NACS are coming very soon!
Man, if the switchover comes before quad motors start shipping, I'm canceling my deposit. I don't need the NACS complication in my life when I'm already invested in the J1772 combo.

I’m guessing yes, they will provide the inverse adapter free of charge. But that is just a guess.

So, Tesla only gave them so many free ones, eh? Or does this mean Rivian is now shifting production to NACS cars? Or both?
I doubt Tesla gave them any adapters for free and I also doubt they will switch to NACs mid-refresh.

https://riviantrackr.com/news/rivians-free-nacs-adapter-is-going-away-heres-what-you-need-to-know/

Later this month, Rivian will stop allocating a free NACS adaptor with a Rivian purchase.

THIS DOES NOT IMPACT ALREADY PURCHASED VINS! Current owners will still receive their adaptor by the end of the month if they haven’t already.
Not surprising. As Rivian is poised to exceed 5000 deliveries per month, optional Tesla charger adapter sales could potentially bring in over 1.1 million dollars in additional revenue each month. In California there are so many public chargers that for me, and many others, using Tesla chargers will be unlikely, unless traveling out of California on a long road trip. Drive well.
