So, Tesla only gave them so many free ones, eh? Or does this mean Rivian is now shifting production to NACS cars? Or both?

Bad move imo. Probably cost the $40. Sell a car you can’t fill up. Wtf

I agree it probably doesn’t cost them very much but you can definitely “fill it up” without the need for an NACS adapter. Is it a nice-to-have? Absolutely. But a must have? No.

Sounds like a good idea. Its in the shop there are third party options why give it away people know what they are buying.

Sucks for the customer but Rivian needs to get costs under control. The adapter enables Tesla charging and customers can use their $750 referral credit to purchase one. Everyone who buys a Rivian (unless a custom order) should use a referral code and get $750 towards accessories to include NACS adapter.

Also when they switch over to NACS ports one will need a different adapter to use CCS1 chargers.

I’ve had my R1T for 2.5+ years and driven as far south as Los Angeles and as far north as Prince Rupert, BC. I only once used the NACs adapter. And that was to test it at a local Supercharger.
YMMV

P.S. I have found the more adventurous you are the less likely there is to be a SuperCharger around. Although that is changing a bit. I noticed they recently added one in Ucluelet. When I was there it was CCS only.

And neither seems to be helpful from Zion to North Rim and on to St George.

Did the same thing at the Edwards, CO supercharger with the A2Z Typhoon Pro I purchased. Plugged in to make sure it worked which it did. Charged for about two minutes, then moved to the Electrify America chargers 20 feet away. I charged there for real and dry heaved for ten minutes from having just given asshole musk $1.23.
