Hi,
I am new to the Rivian family. I travel frequently internationally for work, sometimes being gone 3 weeks at at time. What is the best methods to reduce battery drain other than turning off Gear Guard? I have read about battery tenders, leaving it plugged in (in my case level 1 charging), or using camp mode? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Set the max charge at 80% and leave it plugged in.
What if you get to the airport and all of the chargers are taken?

What is the longest you can leave your R1 with Gear Guard, and without?
(Airport parking scares me because my model3 would be dead in a week with sentry and everything turned off)

I don't know how far you are from the airport but I wouldn't want to pay for 3 weeks of airport parking (even if expensing it). I'd leave my car parked at home in the garage safe from hail storms, theft, vandalism, etc and Uber to the airport. That's an option for me, may not be for you.

Agree. I've spent up to 2 weeks at the airport (in the garage) but that was long enough. Lost about 15% battery so not that bad. Gear guard was on but not a lot of recordings.

Where are you leaving it at?

If at home, leave it plugged in. Set your charge level to 50% and call it a day. If it drops a bit, the charger will bring it back up when plugged in. You can add a battery tender too which will lessen the depletion of the main pack which stars another charging session.

Do NOT leave it a high SoC (state of charge). It will degrade the battery faster for no reason at all.

If you don't want to leave your Vehicle plugged-in (or can't), enabling Shipping mode (I think the setting is called "Vehicle transport mode") will save you a lot of battery drain.

In my last test, I got 3% in 10 days which contrast in to ~1%/day if just parked with Guard Off.

Great advice above.

If your parking it at the airport, I would try to do it with 70-80% SOC. You can try putting it in shipping mode but turning off GG should reduce it from 5-7% daily down to 1% or so.

Should be fine for 3 weeks though I would want to park it in a covered garage if at all possible. I would strongly advise against parking it for long periods in direct sunlight in the summer months.

Yes. It is about the best way to limit the drain if you don't need your truck for a while and can't plug it in. Camping still allows accessories to run or to turn on outlets.

I would be leaving it at home and Uber to the airport. Would shipping mode be better than camping mode?

Shipping mode worked great for me. Highly recommend it.

Just leave it plugged in with the charge level set to 50%. Nothing else to do.

If your leaving it home and can plug it in…set charge limit to 50-60% and leave it plugged in.

I prefer shipping mode if parking for long periods unplugged. Camping mode is designed to keep the vehicle off but not necessarily designed for use over a long period of time.

I much prefer to leave it at home because if something happens in the airport parking lot it won’t be captured by gear guard Gary
