This is an excellent YouTube channel for reviews. He buys everything himself and is very thorough with his product evaluations. The RedTiger F7N is ranked second of those that he tested. The F17 Elite might be replace my Garmin if it performs as well or better than the F7N.

@Redtiger since you are on here and a forum sponsor, offering my subjective feedback... there might be folks like me out there (and @JM. ) that just want a high performance dashcam w/ a minimal profile.

Part of the reason why I went with the Viofo A139 PRO. Though the A229 comes recommended, I'd rather not have another screen. If I was in the market, I'd be looking at the Blackvue or Thinkware cameras.

Just some feedback as to what you might want to offer in the future. Super high quality optics, reliability, in a small form factor. Screen is wholly unnecessary.

Dash cams with screens make no sense at all. Should be tiny like the Garmins. There's never a useful reason for a screen.
Never?

I mean for most people dash cams are “record other people outside so if there is an accident I have proof it ain’t my fault!”, they have minimal reason for a screen, and very little reason to record inside the vehicle, and no great reason for recording in color most of the time...and are better served by something built into the vehicle in any case (Gear Guard for example).

However here are a few use cases:
  1. It is the easiest way to make sure you have the lenses lined up the way you want -- most people won’t set it up, record, take the recording out, and verify it...and if they do, what if they knock it out of alignment putting the recording media back in? Or if it slowly falls out of alignment (I have that problem with a backyard/nature camera)
  2. anyone trying to make professional-ish YouTube style videos wants some feedback on how the look and how the shot is framed. Yes, you can shoot a ten minute or two hour segment and then check afterwords, but it is pretty disheartening when you find out you clipped your head out of the frame and need to do it all over again.
Hmmm, that isn’t many uses cases, but still it is more then zero!

I typed "never" instead of "nearly useless" just to see what creative arguments would be proposed, thanks.

I'm still amazed at the placement of a friend's dashcam with a screen. In the way of the windshield view while driving. I borrowed the truck and it was horrible. Her reason? "I want to be sure it's working." WTF.

Awesome use of an absolute (and I am personally quite prone to the “weasel words”, even on statements most people make absolute!).

The F17 Elite is an upgraded model. You would love it!
