I am sure this has been asked 10K times (apologies!!), but there is not a clear consensus in the market and I am new to this forum.
I have a Tesla M3, upgrading (and getting out from under the opressive disgust) to a Rivian R1. Clearly I would like to continue to use my in-home charger, what is the best adapter? I have seen several, and even ordered a few, but returned them all due to them being flimsy and trashy. I do not want to risk my warranty but Rivian doesn't sell one....yet.....
Was recommended the 2025 Ecogenix Tesla to J1772.

Thoughts? Help???

There are some decent options out there, but my advice is just don't cheap out (so, anything from an Amazon seller that seems too good of a deal).

The higher quality options tend to come from A2Z, TeslaTap, and Lectron. TeslaTap is by far the most expensive, but the quality seems to be unmatched.

I have the A2Z which I now use for both of our Rivians, because of course I didn't opt for the "Universal" charger when we got our Tesla. The adapter gets used almost every other day at home and have had zero issues since I bought it in September.

Highly recommend TeslaTap as well. I had two separate Lectron adapters fail within year of usage - charging would get interrupted and restart frequently.

I actually tried all of them (TeslaTap, Lectron, A2Z) while waiting for the A2Z to ship (purchased directly from their website for the discount). I did a ton of research from other EV owners. The TeslaTap is very expensive and made sense to spend the extra money while other manufacturers were increasing the quality of their adapters. With A2Z nowadays, it doesn’t make sense to spend extra money for no reason. Depends on your amperage but for me my EVSE setup maxes out at 48 amps so I’m very happy with my A2Z and use it every night without issue. Plus it has a nice lock feature unlike the TeslaTap.

I also purchased the A2Z adapter and it is really well constructed. You can drop it and it won't get damaged. I also like that it is lockable that prevents you being unplugged when overnighting at a hotel for example.

I bought and used a Leenpecker unit. Worked fine until it got wet while charging outside. One of the small data pins broke off inside the Tesla charge head. This is clearly the reason you don't want to go for cheap. Had to replace the whole Tesla charge unit!

The only three brands / model I would buy is A2Z Stellar, UMC TeslaTap or Lectron J-1772

I personally bought the 48 amp Lectron and gave it away to a forum member and prefer to use the 80 amp A2Z Stellar with built in lock and compact design.

I would recommend sticking with known brands like Lectron, A2Z and TeslaTap

I would recommend the A2Z Stellar NACS to J-1772 adapter which is available for $88, compact build, has a built in lock, good customer service / warranty and overbuilt for futureproofing.

This adapter is used with Tesla home chargers and destination chargers commonly found at hotels / shopping center / parking lots.

The level 2 Stellar adapter will pay for itself overtime by avoiding an expensive fast charge on the road every night while you sleep at the hotel with Tesla destination charging.

You can use the same Tesla Find Us link to locate Tesla Level 2 destination chargers.

Feel free to use the forum discount code “RIV” to save $$$ and get free shipping too.

A2Z Stellar Adapter NACS to J-1772 for Destination and Home charging. This adapter literally pays for itself

Tesla Find Us Superchargers available with adapter / Magicdock location Chargers

Here is a good example of 10+ free level 2 AC Tesla destination chargers 8 kW - 16kW charging available at a grocery store only if you have an adapter. This is commonly found at malls, shopping center, movie theaters, etc.

The Rivian you see is using DCFC level 3 with an adapter

I am also using my Tesla charger, but I went with the Ecogenix adapter and haven't had any issues ($50; max 80A)

I recently purchased the 80amp version of Lectron's Tesla to J1772 just to keep in my R1S in case I need it. Doing some traveling this summer so trying to make sure I have all the adapters.

Have been using a Lectron adapter ($120) to charge my Rivian with my Tesla WC. Solid, reliable, bulletproof. A2Z makes another excellent adapter that costs less ($95), both before discounts. No reason to buy anything else, and definitely stay well away from those lesser and cheap adapters found online.
