I wonder if they were having trouble with the air ride and that's how they bottomed out or if bottoming out broke their air ride. After watching some of the punishment these have taken I can't imagine what you'd have to do to this thing to bottom it out.

3 Months for a Model 3 and 6 months for Model Y.
Exactly (I was thinking of a model y though. Same thing. Lol).

I'm guessing this rally is WAY more punishing than the TAT or most of their previous testing. I'd count suspension components as wear items on that truck in this rally.

They ran it last year too, don’t think this issue occurred then.

I know they ran it last year. My point is that I could see a higher probability for suspension failure in the rally than was experienced on a cross country gravel road adventure with the occasional technical trail.

I've ridden about a third of the TAT on a motorcycle. While it is hard, the public roads aren't generally suspension breaking hard.

Also, this year's route is not the same as last year's route.

I hope they’re able to make repairs overnight!!
If you look at the standings they still did pretty well today even with the reported shock issues, sitting in Third 7 points behind 2nd.

They broke something last year when Emme got too enthusiastic on a whoop.

Back at the start line, suspension from slow pulling up looks settled and not as bumpy as yesterday.

I’d missed (or forgotten) the failure during last year’s Rebelle rally.

Motor Trend reported a broadly similar problem (failure of one of the front hydraulic struts) on the second leg of the TAT trip. No way to know if it’s the same problem, or if last year’s issue was the same.

it is a bit worrisome that out of three “production” trucks used for extended racing/ trail running by people outside the company, two have had failures of the front hydraulic struts. A failure of a pre-production truck last year doesn’t bother me much. There may be a weakness there that 99% of us will likely never provoke In normal driving.

Problems like this aren’t uncommon in new vehicles, especially when they have as new tech as these trucks do. Tesla certainly had their share, but IMHO was good about finding and fixing defects with running production changes.
