I was hoping to simply remove the two lower rear seats to allow more room on trips for two $$ bicycles etc but it seems there is a wire harness (for rear seat heaters?) that is not a simple disconnect.

Anyone thinking along these lines?

That’s an old Kestrel but point being I wouldn’t really want two $8k (or more) bikes on the bed rails, tail gate or under the tonneau cover while traveling. Stooping to eat or overnight at a hotel opens up the real possibility of getting them stolen in less than a minute.

The wiring harness is most likely for the heated rear seats. I went through the OG and didn't find anything else that it would be used for but that's my best guess.

I wouldn’t leave any bike in/on any vehicle anywhere overnight.
Everything comes in the hotel room.

in the bed with the tonneau closed and gear guard cable on seems more secure than in the cabin. Not visible that way, locked. In cabin, they’re visible through the windows. Glass is much easier to get through than a metal tonneau.

Not really interested in putting expensive bikes in the bed on top of each other where they can bang around and also losing that area for storage.
